BREAKING NEWS coming out of Buffalo, New York this morning as the Buffalo Bills agreed to a four-year contract extension with wide receiver Khalil Shakir, first reported by Adam Schefter. Shakir is coming off a career-high season for the Bills where he led the team in targets, receptions, and receiving yards. The fifth-round draft pick from the 2022 NFL Draft has emerged as one of, if not the favorite receiver for 2024 MVP Josh Allen after the Bills traded Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans in the offseason last summer.

Bills and wide receiver Khalil Shakir reached agreement today on a four-year contract extension worth up to $60.2 million, including $32 million guaranteed at signing with $18 million paid in the first 12 months. The deal ties him to Buffalo through the 2029 season.

Deal was… pic.twitter.com/lTqGy1T5aJ
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) February 25, 2025

Shakir’s contract is sizable for such a late-round pick; four-years, $60.2 million with $32 million guaranteed at signing with $18 million of this $32 million being paid in the first 12 months of the contract. The wide receiver earned this extension through his career-season; tallying 76 receptions off 100 targets, 821 receiving yards, four touchdowns, and averaging 10.8 yards per catch.

Here to stay!!

Khalil Shakir has agreed to terms on a four-year contract extension through 2029.#GoBills | #BillsMafia pic.twitter.com/RmVhpUE9vh
— Buffalo Bills (@BuffaloBills) February 25, 2025

This extension provides some stability for a receiver room that was surrounded by doubt and uncertainty leading into the 2024/25 season. Shakir showed signs of becoming Allen’s favorite target in 2023/24 but many seemed to be unsure if Shakir could be that number one option for the MVP. Shakir provided sure hands in the slot for the Bills and did not shy away from making plays throughout the season in what helped the Bills reach their first AFC Championship since 2021. Shakir hauled in six catches on seven targets for 46 yards against the Kansas City Chiefs in a 32-29 loss but Shakir is only expected to improve going into year four.

The biggest question surrounding the Bills receiver room now will be what Buffalo does with Amari Cooper as well as if Keon Coleman will continue to improve in 2025. The Bills traded for Cooper in the middle of the season, who was in the final year of his contract and is now set to become a Free Agent this offseason. With the Bills, Cooper played in eight games, logging 20 receptions on 32 targets for 297 yards and two touchdowns. Cooper’s next contract, whether it is with the Bills or someone else, should be a sizable contract for the nine-year veteran and makes me wonder if Buffalo will even consider resigning him.

Keon Coleman, the 33rd pick of the 2024 NFL Draft had a serviceable start to his NFL career finishing the regular season with; 29 catches on 57 targets for 556 yards and four touchdowns. Coleman was an electric and physical wide receiver at Florida State University and showed signs of his explosiveness during his rookie season. While Coleman has nothing but upside, it will be interesting to see if the Bills try to add some sort of veteran presence to their wide receiver room, whether that be resigning Cooper or targeting someone like Cooper Kupp or shoot for the stars and try to land Tee Higgins. If Coleman can continue to make leaps and bounds in his development, the Bills might be setup for success in the future but as of right now the Bills need to surround Josh Allen with more weapons if they want any chance of getting over the proverbial “hump” in beating the Kansas City Chiefs in the playoffs.

Retain or Release – NFL Teams Making Some Big Decisions

With the combine kicking off tomorrow and the NFL offseason in full swing teams are back to focusing on building championship teams. As usual there are some big names that look to be locked down as well as a few
teams willing to let stars go. We are looking at a new historic high at wide receiver, a QB that wants to stay in San Francisco and a top tier cornerback who may be in different colors next season.

Ja’Marr Chase

Chase and the Bengals couldn’t come to an agreement last off season which led to him missing training camp. A move that some felt cost the team a few games early due to rhythm between him and his longtime QB Joe Burrow. However, despite the missed time Chase put those grumblings to rest as he logged his best season yet, finishing the year with the coveted “triple crown” with the most receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns amongst all wide receivers in the NFL. This has prompted Bengals GM Duke Tobin’s plans to make Chase the highest paid non QB in the league. A statement that will undoubtably have all Cincinnati fans smiling.

The Bengals are ready to give Ja'Marr Chase $35M+ in AAV to vault him past Justin Jefferson as the highest paid non-quarterback in the NFL 💰

Cincinnati's top front office exec Duke Tobin at the NFL Scouting Combine 🎙️ pic.twitter.com/OR56r6kYqv
— David Rumsey (@_DavidRumsey) February 25, 2025

Tee Higgins

After discussing the massive pay day he plans to reward Chase with, Tobin also touched on the teams WR2 Tee Higgins. Stating "Whenever I'm in charge of a football team, I want Tee Higgins. So, I'm gonna do what I can to get Tee Higgins." This comes after some talk about other teams interest in Higgins and Tobin’s preference to get a long-term deal done to surround his franchise QB with the top talent he is familiar with.

Brock Purdy

General Manager John Lynch for the San Francisco 49ers told the media that the team has started negotiations with quarterback Brock Purdy on an extension. He publicly acknowledged that the plan is to make Purdy the QB for long time and that they are fully on board with getting this deal done early and not dragging out the negotiations. They know what they have and want to keep him there.

#49ers GM John Lynch says the organization has started contract extension conversations with QB Brock Purdy, per @mattbarrows pic.twitter.com/Cbci2MruAU
— OurSF49ers (@OurSf49ers) February 26, 2025

J’aire Alexander

The Green Bay Packers are open to trade talks for their two time all-pro cornerback. J’aire, who is considered one of the best corners when he is on the field has dealt with a lot of injuries over the past few seasons including a PCL repair last season. Though he is expected to be able to play when the upcoming season starts it seems as though the Packers are ready to move on if they can find a team willing to give them what they want.

Courtland Sutton

Denver Bronco wide out Courtland Sutton has one year left on his current contract but would much rather have a deal inked prior to this season starting. Both HC Sean Payton and GM George Paton want to get him that extension, but it does seem that those discussions haven’t began and there isn’t a timeline on when they will yet. At this moment, all reports point to the two sides finding a way to make it work but only time will tell.

Sam Darnold signs with Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks have quickly found their replacement for quarterback Geno Smith as they have agreed to a three-year, $100.5 million contract, $55 million guaranteed with the former Minnesota Viking. Darnold will be heading to the Pacific Northwest after the Las Vegas Raiders traded a 2025 third-round pick to Seattle for the 2022 Comeback Player of the Year. This deal was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. While Smith is now a member of the black and silver, Darnold joins a Seahawks team that found inconsistency in quarterback play in 2024 and now have somewhat overhauled their offense by releasing Tyler Lockett and trading star wideout D.K. Metcalf to the Pittsburgh Steelers for only a 2025 second-round pick.

Update: it’s a three-year, $100.5 million deal including $55 million guaranteed. https://t.co/7VOdSRe2hD
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) March 10, 2025

It is not surprising to see Seattle sign Darnold, who is coming off a career season in Minnesota, throwing for 4,564 yards, 36 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. The USC alum took over the starting quarterback role at the beginning of the 2024 season after first-round pick JJ McCarthy injured his knee in preseason. Darnold propelled the Vikings to a 14-3 record, but struggled in the playoffs losing to the Los Angeles Rams 27-9 at home.

While Darnold posted his most productive season to date in the NFL, it is interesting that the Seahawks have now gone “all in” on a guy that only has one true season as a starter under his belt as well as decimated the targets around him. Jaxon Smith-Njigba is the only remaining wideout in Seattle that is a proven talent, but Smith-Njigba has not had to be a WR1 in his career yet. While the Ohio State product showed tremendous growth in 2024, 100 catches for 1,130 yards and six touchdowns, questions still loom whether or not he can be the leading receiver in Seattle. The Seahawks must be planning on drafting multiple wide receivers in the upcoming NFL Draft in April, but this move seems like somewhat of a gamble given the limited sample size of Darnold as a starter as well as the limited weapons that Seahawks offense now possesses. Darnold proved most critics wrong in 2024, but the talent that surrounded him in Minnesota is much greater than the talent the 27-year old is joining in Seattle.

Josh Allen extends with Bills for record deal

It has been quite the year for Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen. The Wyoming alum has quickly racked up three major life events in the last 100 days, getting engaged, winning his first NFL MVP award, and signing the largest contract in NFL history. First reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the reigning MVP signed the largest recorded contract in NFL history after receiving a six-year, $330 million contract that includes $250 million guaranteed. Allen still had four years remaining on his contract that would have kept him Buffalo until 2028 but now finds the 28-year old quarterback in a Bills uniform for another six seasons where he will be 34 when he enters his final year of this new extension.

In recent days, the Bills now have extended:

🏈QB Josh Allen — 6 years, $330 million.
🏈DE Gregory Rousseau — 4 years, $80 million.
🏈LB Terrell Bernard — 4 years, $50M million.
🏈WR Khalil Shakir — 4-years, $53 million https://t.co/3znytGE3rI
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) March 9, 2025

Allen proved this past season that he is worth every penny after throwing for 4,367 yards, 32 touchdowns and six interceptions while leading the Bills to the number two seed in the AFC and their first AFC Championship berth since 2020. With this extension Allen now moves from 14th-highest average annual value among quarterbacks ($43 million) to tied for second ($55 million). The only quarterback that makes more annually than Allen is Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. This extension comes in the wake of resigning wide out Khalil Shakir as well as Allen’s vast improvement in the turnover column, where he only had eight all season, a career low. While the Bills have secured their franchise quarterback for the future, it will be interesting to see what other pieces the Bills can bring in on offense to help support the reigning NFL MVP. Shakir has been Allen’s favorite pass catcher but the Bills will need to bring in more veteran players in hopes of giving Allen more weapons to help utilize the long list of abilities Allen possesses.

Breaking news out of New Jersey, former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Justin Fields has reached an agreement with the New York Jets on a two-year, $40 million deal that includes $30 million guaranteed. The news was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. This deal brings Fields into a situation that he has not had since being drafted by the Chicago Bears, being QB1 after the Jets earlier last week told veteran Aaron Rodgers that they would be releasing him. Fields started the 2024 season as the Steelers starter due to Russell Wilson dealing with a calf injury that had Fields start six games for Pittsburgh before ceding the job to Wilson once he returned from injury. In those six games, Fields posted 1,106 passing yards, five touchdowns and only one interception. If you asked any Steelers fan what they thought of Fields before he was replaced by Wilson, many were shocked that he was replaced by the veteran that struggled the previous two seasons in Denver. Wilson then came into Pittsburgh and showed fans why Mike Tomlin decided to roll with him instead of Fields for the remainder of the season. Wilson finished the 2024 regular season with 2,482 passing yards, 16 touchdowns and five interceptions en route to a wildcard berth that would end in the Steelers losing 28-14 to their division rival the Baltimore Ravens.

Sources: Justin Fields reached agreement on a two-year, $40 million deal that includes $30 million guaranteed with the Jets. Deal negotiated by David Mulugheta of Athletes First. pic.twitter.com/ykdxFY11Q5
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) March 10, 2025

Fields showed glimpses of why he was drafted as the eleventh overall pick by the Bears in the 2021 NFL Draft this season in Pittsburgh, with his ability to extend plays out of the pocket due to his elusiveness and Lamar Jackson-esqe mobility, which is probably why Fields was on vacation in Dubai when he learned of the news of his new team. As many NFL fans know, Chicago is the destination where, in recent years, young quarterbacks go to die, but Fields found a refreshing restart in Pittsburgh with hopes of finally landing the QB1 role for an extended period of time. Fields seemed to do enough to prove to other front offices that he is worthy of a starting quarterback spot and has now found his new home in Woody Johnson’s franchise, at least for the next two seasons. The Jets have been one of the most discombobulated franchises of the past decade but by bringing in a young, athletic quarterback, one who played with star wide out Garrett Wilson in college at Ohio State, could begin to provide stability to a franchise who hasn't been able to get anything right for quite some time.

While the Steelers and Jets wait to see where Justin Fields will choose to play, the free-agent QB is in Dubai this morning, as he posted on IG. pic.twitter.com/ywLZBoa56g
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) March 10, 2025

As NFL free agency continues to heat up into the spring and summer, some notable wide receivers have found new homes in the past two days with one staying with the franchise that he won a Super Bowl with in 2020. Seahawks star D.K. Metcalf inked a massive deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Joshua Palmer signed with the Buffalo Bills and longtime Tampa Bay Buccaneers star Chris Godwin extended his time in Florida for another three seasons. All three of these deals were first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

A new deal for DK Metcalf: Steelers are signing their new wide receiver to a five-year, $150 million contract, per sources. pic.twitter.com/NIP1NIXQcn
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) March 9, 2025

D.K. Metcalf signed a five-year, $150 million deal with Pittsburgh after the Seahawks traded him to the Steel City for a 2025 second-round pick. Metcalf was entering the final year of his $72 million extension that he signed with Seattle in 2022, where he had $18 million remaining in that contract. This trade now sees Seattle with five picks in the first three rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft while giving up their clear cut WR1. In his time in a Seahawks uniform, Metcalf tallied 6,324 receiving yards, 48 touchdowns, averaging 5.7 yards per catch. In his final season in Seattle, Metcalf hauled in 66 catches for 992 yards and five touchdowns. Looking at his time in Seattle, the Ole Miss alum averaged 1,054 receiving yards and eight touchdowns per season averaging 14.4 yards per catch. Metcalf now joins a player with a similar physical play style in George Pickens, who are now both waiting to see who will be throwing them the ball in 2025.

Sources: Bills reached agreement with former Chargers WR Josh Palmer on a 3-year, $36 million deal. pic.twitter.com/3XTXTaBBkl
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) March 10, 2025

Joshua Palmer has signed a three-year, $36 million deal with the Buffalo Bills. Palmer joins a Bills team that is coming off their first AFC Championship appearance since 2020 but are looking to improve their wide receiver room, thus bringing in Palmer who is entering year five in the NFL. In his time with the Los Angeles Chargers, Palmer caught 182 passes for 2,387 yards for ten touchdowns. In 2024 after parting ways with Mike Williams and Keenan Allen, many Chargers fans thought Palmer would take a big leap and cement himself as the Chargers WR1. Palmer did just the opposite, hauling in 39 catches for 584 yards and a lone touchdown. With Josh Allen throwing Palmer the ball in 2025, Bills fans should be hopeful that their MVP quarterback can “unlock” the fifth-year player, but only time will tell if Palmer is worth the money or just another ride in the carousel that has been the Bills wide receiver room.

The second-biggest wide receiver signing behind Metcalf to the Steelers is Chris Godwin choosing to stay with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on a three-year extension for $66 million, with $44 million guaranteed. The maximum value of this deal is $72 million with incentives but only two out of the three years are guaranteed to Godwin. Godwin was having what fellow Buccaneers wide out Mike Evans called an “All-Pro” season fell by the wayside after Godwin dislocated his ankle in Week 7 vs the Ravens, which required surgery. In his time in Tampa Bay, Godwin has hauled in 579 catches, 7,266 yards, and 39 touchdowns. In 2024, Godwin before getting injured had 50 catches for 576 yards and five touchdowns. While Godwin reportedly turned down an extra $20 million by not joining the New England Patriots, it is clear Godwin believes the Buccaneers are much closer to contending for a title than the Patriots. Look for Godwin to bounce back to his regular productive self, as long as his ankle is healthy and Baker Mayfield continues to be the gunslinger he has proven to be the last two seasons in Florida.

"From my understanding Chris Godwin left about $20M on the table..

I know New England was in on him pretty heavy..

He clearly liked where he was in Tampa Bay"@RapSheet #PMSLive https://t.co/NHJU1vJtke pic.twitter.com/UFxBjMoMXr
— Pat McAfee (@PatMcAfeeShow) March 10, 2025

Former Super Bowl MVP and 2021 receiving triple crown recipient Cooper Kupp agreed to a 3-year, $45 million deal with the Seattle Seahawks, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. This deal comes in wake of the Los Angeles Rams releasing the 31-year old wide receiver earlier this week at the start of the new league year. The Rams made it very clear that they would not be re-signing the eight-year pass catcher and now find they will be seeing Kupp twice a year as he stays in the division by signing with Seattle. Kupp returns to his home state of Washington looking to stay healthy and complete a full season, something he has not done since 2021. The Eastern Washington alum played twelve games the past two seasons and only nine in 2022 which could have been a major factor in why the Rams did not want to keep Kupp.

Seahawks are giving Cooper Kupp a three-year deal, per source. https://t.co/KraJBbIfyB
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) March 14, 2025

In 2021, Kupp finished with 145 receptions for 1,947 yards, and 16 touchdowns while averaging 13.4 yards per catch. Kupp became the fourth player since 1970 to win the receiving triple crown award.

Cooper Kupp is coming off a twelve game season that was productive but left more to be desired. Kupp finished with 67 receptions for 710 yards and 6 touchdowns but has not shown his 2021 level of play since succumbing to multiple long-term injuries the past three seasons. Along with his poor health history in recent years, the Seahawks also freed up $7.52 million in cap, which helped land his replacement, Davante Adams.

Seahawks FA additions so far:

🏈QB Sam Darnold
🏈WR Cooper Kupp
🏈DE DeMarcus Lawrence
🏈WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling
🏈OL Josh Jones
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) March 14, 2025

In his eight seasons in Los Angeles, Cooper Kupp hauled in 634 receptions for 7,776 yards and 57 touchdowns. Kupp made himself a household name in 2021 after leading the NFL in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns and has now secured a three-year contract that will yield him $15 million annually. The addition of Kupp to the Emerald City will replenish the losses of Tyler Lockett and the D.K. Metcalf trade that sent him to Pittsburgh and gave newly acquired quarterback Sam Darnold a productive pass catcher. Seahawks fans need to pray that Kupp can play a full season, otherwise Jaxon Smith-Njigba will have to rely on Marquez Valdes-Scantling to carry the load, who is another fresh face in this Seattle offense.

George Kittle is staying in San Francisco — and making history in the process.

The 49ers have signed Kittle to a four-year, $76.4 million contract extension with $40 million guaranteed.

The extension makes Kittle the highest-paid tight end in NFL history, averaging $19.1 million per year — edging out Arizona’s Trey McBride.

Heading into his age-32 season, Kittle remains a centerpiece of the 49ers offense and a consistent presence in the league’s best tight end conversation. The six-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro has totaled 538 catches for 7,380 yards and 45 touchdowns over eight NFL seasons.

Kittle was at his best in 2024, catching a career-high 83% of his targets. His 78 receptions marked his most since 2019, while his 1,106 receiving yards were the second-most of his career. He also added eight touchdowns.

Kittle’s new deal ensures San Francisco keeps one of its most vital offensive weapons for years to come.

The Vikings are locking in one of their defensive standouts for another season.

Minnesota has signed Pro Bowl linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel to a one-year, $23 million contract extension, according to NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero. The team later confirmed the deal.

This Andrew Van Ginkel hit>>>>pic.twitter.com/eYKYb5hgwy
— Cam (@42Cyc) April 19, 2025

Van Ginkel originally signed a two-year, $20 million contract with the Vikings in 2024. With his current deal set to expire after the 2025 season, Minnesota opted to secure his services beyond that timeline, rewarding him with a substantial raise following a breakout campaign.

After five seasons in Miami, Van Ginkel made an immediate impact in Minnesota, posting career highs with 79 tackles and 11.5 sacks while also returning both of his interceptions for touchdowns. He nearly added a third pick in the season finale against Detroit, capping a year in which he consistently outperformed his deal.

Andrew Van Ginkel just got extended via Adam Schefter. #vikings

pic.twitter.com/Kd7sbPrZ0s
— Ali Siddiqui (@asiddiqui15) April 29, 2025

Rather than risk losing Van Ginkel in free agency after another strong year, the Vikings are making an early investment to retain one of their top playmakers. The move reflects Minnesota’s win-now mindset following a 14-3 finish in 2024 and expectations of contending again in 2025.

2026 World Cup Grass Requirement Continues Controversy Over Player Safety and League Priorities

In anticipation of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which the United States, Canada, and Mexico will co-host, several well-known NFL stadiums are undergoing a significant makeover: the installation of natural grass in place of artificial turf fields. A lengthy and intensely contentious discussion about playing fields, injury rates, and the NFL's dedication to its own players has been rekindled by this FIFA-mandated modification for player safety and performance reasons.

FIFA’s Mandate: No Turf Allowed

All of FIFA's tournament matches must take place on natural grass. Research backs up the organization's belief that grass offers a more forgiving, safer surface that lowers the risk of some injuries, especially those involving ligaments and joints. Stadiums that normally host NFL games on artificial turf are therefore required to switch to natural grass for the duration of the competition.

Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, home of the Falcons, AT&T Stadium in Dallas, home of the Cowboys, and MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, home of the New York Giants and Jets, are some of the stadiums making the move. To comply with FIFA's requirements, these venues are spending millions of dollars. For instance, Atlanta is investing about $200 million to upgrade its stadium with grass temporarily.

NFL Players Question the Double Standard

Players and the NFL Players Association (NFLPA) have taken notice of the decision to install grass fields for the World Cup but not for the NFL season. Players have been urging the league to move away from turf for years because they claim there is a definite trend of higher injury rates.

— ACL Recovery Club (@ACLrecoveryCLUB) September 27, 2022

Aaron Rodgers' well-known Achilles injury, which occurred minutes after he made his New York Jets debut at MetLife Stadium in 2023, became a hot topic of discussion. The injury happened on artificial turf, and despite growing evidence of its risks, many players, including Rodgers, expressed their displeasure with the surface's use in NFL stadiums.

“We’ve been asking for grass for years,” players have tweeted. They’re now seeing billion-dollar renovations for temporary grass fields to accommodate soccer players, but nothing permanent for NFL athletes. What does that say about the player's value to the league?

Turf v. Grass: What the Research Says

According to studies, artificial turf has a higher injury rate than natural grass, especially for non-contact lower extremity injuries. A 2019 study published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine found that the overall injury rate in NCAA football was 13% higher on artificial turf than on natural grass. However, it’s notable that certain injuries, like concussions, showed no significant difference between surfaces, while ankle sprains were slightly more common on turf. In contrast, a 2020 NFL study reported an ACL injury rate of 0.042 per 100 team plays on synthetic turf, compared to 0.029 on grass, suggesting a modest increase. This data supports the fact that catastrophic, career-altering, injuries occur more frequently on turf compared to grass. Additionally, Players were 28% more likely to sustain a non-contact lower-body injury on turf, according to a 2021 NFLPA report. Positions requiring a lot of cutting, pivoting, and acceleration—movements that are common in both football and soccer—are particularly concerning.

Many NFL stadiums have kept using synthetic turf despite the data, citing the flexibility it provides for multipurpose venues, lower maintenance costs, and climate challenges. Turf enables more frequent use without deterioration, as grass is often difficult to maintain throughout the year in stadiums in colder or wetter climates.

A Cost-Benefit Analysis—or a Misplaced Priority?

The grass-to-turf argument frequently boils down to cost and logistics for teams and stadium operators. Artificial turf doesn't need as much sunlight or watering systems, and it's easier to maintain. However, it raises serious concerns about priorities that these same stadiums are willing to spend hundreds of millions to temporarily install grass for soccer matches.

For instance, the Tennessee Titans have declared that, despite growing calls for grass, their new stadium, which is expected to open in the late 2020s, will use synthetic turf because of maintenance issues. In the meantime, stadiums hosting World Cup games are figuring out how to set up cutting-edge grass systems, such as retractable trays that can be taken outside for sunlight and returned inside for games, and hybrid surfaces.

Could the World Cup Spark Lasting Change?

Some people believe that the World Cup's attention and investment will act as a spark for long-lasting change in the NFL. Stadium design innovations, such as the retractable pitch system at London's Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which can accommodate both artificial and grass fields, may serve as a template for multipurpose venues in the future.

The NFL and FIFA are also talking about working together on field safety best practices. If successful, some of the World Cup grass solutions might be adopted by the NFL as standard practice, particularly if injury rates keep favoring natural grass.

NFL Training Camp Injury Trends in 2025

As NFL training camps enter Week 2, injuries are already piling up—especially multi-week soft-tissue and connective-tissue injuries that could impact team depth in the regular season. Here's a breakdown based on what has been reported in the camps so far.

Achilles Tendon Ruptures

3 confirmed Achilles ruptures have occurred so far during training camp practices.

A recent high‑profile case: Giants WR Bryce Ford‑Wheaton suffered a non-contact Achilles tear that ends his season for a second time (he previously tore his ACL in 2023)

Achilles tears often require surgery and extended rehab—and they're increasing across elite sports.

ACL Tears

6 ACL injuries have been reported so far, including:

Dolphins CB Artie Burns is feared to have torn his ACL during practice and is scheduled for an MRI.

Lions DT Levi Onwuzurike is out for the season after offseason ACL surgery.

ACL tears remain among the most devastating injuries—often requiring 9–12 months of rehab.

Hamstring Strains

The Predictors have tracked 17 hamstring injuries in camp settings so far (also including offseason hamstring issues that have lingered into camp).

Notable cases include Cleveland QB Kenny Pickett, who exited a red-zone drill with a hamstring injury, raising flags in the Browns' QB competition.

Vikings star Justin Jefferson is dealing with a mild hamstring strain, though the team expects him to be ready by Week 1

Hamstring injuries are one of the most common soft‑tissue injuries in training camp due to repetitive sprinting and stretching.

Calf Strains

6 calf strains have sidelined players in early camp practices.

Titans' Jauan Jennings, who suffered a calf injury and left practice early

Cardinals rookie DE Walter Nolen III is already missing the start of camp with a calf strain.

Calf strains are also prevalent during preseason preparation, especially among speed-dependent players.

Low Back Injuries

7 low back injuries reported across teams.

For instance:

Bills' OL Sedrick Van Pran‑Granger and Packers' Aaron Banks have both dealt with back issues in camp so far. Others include Jaguars' Patrick Mekari and Seattle's DE Jonathan Hankins.

A majority of these injuries have been seen in offensive and defensive linemen. However, Rams' QB Matthew Stafford has also been dealing with some back discomfort. This will be vital to monitor as we near the regular season. Stafford has an extensive injury history, and his health will have a significant impact on the Rams' season outlook.

What Teams Are Doing

Many clubs are leaning on depth and cautious rehab protocols. Practice restrictions and PUP/NFI listings have become more common early in camp for injured players.

Some teams are bringing in veteran replacements or being forced to rely on rookies due to injuries—case in point: the Giants leaning more on Chris Board and undrafted players after losing Ford‑Wheaton.

Looking Ahead

As preseason continues—with padded practices and eventual joint sessions—teams will monitor whether these numbers increase. Historically, Achilles injuries have appeared in the early parts of preseason camp, but it will be important to monitor if that trend continues.

Keeping tabs on injury management strategies, recovery timelines, and final roster decisions will be critical for assessing each team's readiness for the regular season.

You're ready to leave that mundane report behind and focus on the real priority: dominating your 2025 fantasy football league. I'm here to provide the insights and advice you need to gain a serious edge, win your league, and maximize your profits this season.

Training camp injuries don't just shake up team depth charts—they ripple through fantasy drafts, DFS strategy, and even betting markets. Here's how the current wave of injuries is affecting each domain.

Fantasy Football:

Hamstring & Calf Injuries: Buyer Beware

Justin Jefferson (hamstring): A top-3 fantasy WR who's now a slight durability red flag. His average draft position (ADP) may dip slightly, but savvy managers may view this as a value opportunity—just make sure you have early-season depth.

Rookie WRs & RBs: Injuries to starters or backups may accelerate opportunities for sleepers. Keep an eye on camps where RBs or WR2s are nursing soft-tissue injuries—volume could shift quickly.

ACL/Achilles Tears: Draft Adjustments

Anyone who tears an ACL or Achilles during camp is off the redraft board—and in dynasty leagues, their long-term value plummets.

Artie Burns (ACL): Was on the edge of fantasy relevance in deep leagues as a streamable DB in IDP formats. He's now off the radar.

Other players to suffer ACL Tears: Levi Onwuzurike (DET), David Walker (TB), Starling Thomas (AZ).

Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS)

Soft-Tissue Injuries = Early-Season Opportunity

DFS players should monitor price inefficiencies in Week 1. If a WR1 like Jefferson or a borderline starter is limited or ruled out, WR2/WR3 depth becomes sneaky upside plays at low prices.

Running backs and tight ends on teams with banged-up WRs often see increased short-yardage targets—making them strong PPR pivots in early DFS slates.

Defensive Injuries Create Matchup Edges

Hamstring and calf injuries to DBs and edge rushers weaken defenses. If a team's top CB or edge rusher goes down in camp, opposing QBs and WRs become better DFS stacks early in the year.

Sports Betting

Injury Clusters = Spread Movement

Teams with multiple training camp injuries often see their Week 1 lines move subtly—especially if the injuries are to high-value positions (QB, OL, edge, WR1).

For example, the Browns having both Kenny Pickett (hamstring) and Deshaun Watson (shoulder recovery) on the watchlist could shift their early lines if either is questionable.

Win Totals & Futures

Over/under win totals may start to shift if injuries mount, especially in camps with multiple injuries (e.g., Achilles and ACLs). Bettors can capitalize if they act before books adjust.

In-season futures (e.g., rushing titles, MVP) can also be impacted. If a top RB starts camp with a calf or hamstring strain, it can derail their volume or durability outlook.

Live Betting Prep

Teams entering Week 1 with several camp injuries are prime targets for live bet fading—especially if players on snap counts (returning from hamstring or calf issues) underperform.

In Conclusion:

In short, injuries in camp aren't just a medical story—they're a strategic edge for those who track them closely. Whether you're building DFS lineups, setting fantasy draft boards, or betting on Week 1 action, staying injury-aware can be the difference between a smart bet and a costly one.

Micah Parsons Requests a Trade from the Cowboys

Cowboys star Micah Parsons has requested a trade via X, formerly Twitter, amid contract talks stalling between him and the team.

Parsons is one of the best players in the NFL, and even said last year that he wanted to be a Cowboy for life. This stance has obviously changed as he stated in his X post that he did not want to play for a team that did not let him have his agent present while negotiating, and for a team that took shots at him while being injured last season. Parsons also ended his message saying “I no longer want to play for the Dallas Cowboys. My trade request has been submitted to Stephen Jones personally.”

Thank you Dallas 🦁👑 🙏🏾! I pic.twitter.com/EUnEj9uRUt
— Micah Parsons (@MicahhParsons11) August 1, 2025

Micah Parsons Numbers with Dallas

Parsons has been the focal point of the Cowboys defense since being drafted in 2021. In his four seasons, he accumulated 256 tackles, 52.5 sacks, nine forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, and 112 quarterback hits. He has made the Pro Bowl every year he’s played in the league and earned three All-Pro selections. Parsons also won the Defensive Rookie of the Year award, and has two second-place finishes for Defensive Player of the Year.

After losing DeMarcus Lawrence in free agency, Parsons was due to be the most important player on the defense, and the key to Dallas finding success in the pass rush. It appears now, however, Dallas will need to find production elsewhere, especially in Dante Fowler Jr., who is coming off a season with more than 10 sacks in Washington.

Will the Cowboys Actually Deal Him?

A trade for Parsons is not going to be easy though. Being one of the best players in the league, and still very young, it is going to take a lot for a team to trade for him. Parsons is also looking for a new contract, which teams will have to consider when trying to acquire the star edge rusher.

A trade that could serve as a model for one of this stature is the Khalil Mack trade back in 2018. Mack was 27 years of age at the time and was also entering his fifth season with the Raiders. Mack also put up very similar numbers in his first four seasons, and the Raiders were able to get two first-round picks, a third-round pick, and a sixth-round pick. Mack then signed a record-setting extension, which would likely be the case with Parsons as well. Parsons will likely fetch slightly more than this, but this is a very good starting point to see what the Cowboys might get in return if they do choose to trade him.

A potential trade comp for Micah Parsons: When 27-year-old Khalil Mack was traded from Oakland to Chicago, the Bears gave up two first-round picks, a third-round pick, and a sixth-round pick for Mack, a second-round pick, and a conditional fifth-round pick.

Now the 26-year-old… pic.twitter.com/tne8jxdXMS
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) August 1, 2025

Cowboys Looking Ahead

It is reasonable to doubt that Jerry Jones will end up trading his star rusher, but if not the Cowboys could lose out, especially if Parsons chooses to sit out. This is where the situation could become more contentious. The Cowboys have the upper hand on him, as he is still under contract with the team.

Dallas also has the ability to use the franchise tag on him both this year and next year, meaning Parsons could be stuck in Dallas until 2027. This is the most likely result, unless the two sides can resolve the situation, but at this point in time it looks ugly all the way around.

After multiple ankle setbacks, is the JT bounce-back already priced in — or is a fantasy and DFS trap waiting to happen? Here’s what the data says.

BACKGROUND:

Running backs (RBs) in the National Football League (NFL) experience some of the highest physical demands and injury rates among all positions. Of note, ankle injuries are particularly prevalent due to the cutting, pivoting, and high-contact nature of their position. The frequency and performance implications of these injuries can have a significant effect on fantasy football, daily fantasy sports (DFS), and sports betting markets. While performance metrics are often commonly understood, injury analysis is usually a more nuanced skill. Comprehensive analyses are frequently limited to incomplete data sets and limited detailed information provided in injury reports, ultimately hindering the identification of consistent trends.

This review present a meta-analysis of injury data collected by The Predictors over the past four seasons (2021–2024), focusing specifically on the incidence, type, and severity of ankle injuries among RBs.

The objective is to understand better injury patterns to inform more accurate projections and risk assessments in fantasy football, daily fantasy sports (DFS), and sports betting markets.

Lateral Ankle Sprains

The most common ankle injury, involving the ATFL, CFL, and PTFL ligaments on the outside of the ankle.

Usually result from inversion during cutting or landing.
Often considered “mild,” but repeated lateral sprains can lead to chronic instability.

Medial Ankle Sprains

Less common, these involve the deltoid ligament on the inner ankle.

Typically occur from external rotation or eversion injuries.
Often involve longer recovery than lateral sprains and may indicate more serious structural issues.

High Ankle Sprains

Injuries to the syndesmosis (AITFL, PIFTL) that connect the tibia and fibula.

Result from twisting or external rotation while planted.
Tend to require the most time missed and have the largest drop-off in performance post-return.

Jonathan Taylor Injury Timeline 2022-2024:

2022
Lateral / High Ankle Sprain
Missed Weeks 5, 6, 9
IR in Week 16

2023
PUP-R: Weeks 1-4 - High Ankle Sprain
Thumb Surgery - Missed 3 Weeks

2024
Missed Weeks 5,6,7 - High Ankle Sprain

Lateral Ankle Sprains:

Incidence Rate: 3.3 per 1000 appearances

Avg. Time Lost: 2.8 ± 1.9 weeks

Re-injury Rate: 21.6%

High Ankle Sprains:

Incidence Rate: 6.2 per 1000 appearances

Avg. Time Lost: 4.2 ± 1.9 weeks

Re-injury Rate: 26.7%

Before & After: What Does the Data Say?

On average NFL RBs see a decrease of 24.6% in fantasy PPR after high ankle sprain

PERFORMANCE STATS (NFL - RB)

Snap Percentage: 17.8% decrease

Rushing TDs: 52.8% decrease

Rushing Yards: 26.4% decrease

JONATHAN TAYLOR: FANTASY PRODUCTION

Pre-Injury: 19.1 points per game played

Post-Injury: 16.1 points per game played

~16% Decrease

The Vikings announced Tuesday that Rondale Moore suffered a season-ending knee injury in Minnesota’s preseason opener against the Houston Texans.

It’s a huge setback for the fifth-year receiver—who hasn’t played in a regular-season game since Week 18 of 2023—and for a Vikings receiver group already stretched thin.

A second-round pick by Arizona in 2021, Moore spent last season in Atlanta but missed the entire year with a serious right knee injury. After months of recovery and rehab, he signed with Minnesota in 2025, hoping to make an impact as a returner and big-play threat at receiver.

Those plans fell apart Saturday when, on his first snap of the preseason, Moore fielded a punt and went down along the sideline after a tackle. He was carted off after a long delay, and the scene suggested bad news was coming.

God dude I feel so bad for Rondale Moore pic.twitter.com/BTD6Sz1XyZ
— 〽️ (@TheRealJome) August 10, 2025

"It's one of the most painful things for me as a head coach when I feel that emotion. I make a life out of trying to leave others better than I found them," head coach Kevin O'Connell said. "In that situation, there is nothing I can do, which is the worst feeling as a coach. So you just consult with him and make sure that he knows he's not going to be alone."

Now, Minnesota enters the start of the season without both Jordan Addison (suspension) and Moore, leaving Justin Jefferson—still working through a hamstring issue—Jalen Nailor, and a group of hopefuls including Lucky Jackson, Tai Felton, and Thayer Thomas.

For Moore, it’s back to the all-too-familiar grind of recovery and rehab.

For the second straight season, Brevin Jordan’s season is over before it really began.

The Texans placed the tight end on injured reserve on Tuesday, after he went down in training camp Monday with what appeared to be a lower leg or knee injury. The team didn’t give specifics, but it’s the second straight year Jordan’s season has been cut short after tearing his ACL in Week 2 last year.

“It’s really rough for a guy that just bounced back from a major injury,” head coach DeMeco Ryans said. “It’s tough on Brevin right now and tough on our entire team.”

A fifth-round pick in 2021, Jordan played in 14 games in 2023, posting a career-high 219 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Over his career, he’s caught 53 passes for 532 yards and five scores.

The Texans signed Jordan to a one-year extension worth $2.1 million, with $850,000 guaranteed, as he was projected to be a free agent in 2025. Now he will be back on the road to recovery for another season.

The Browns’ quarterback competition is officially over. Head coach Kevin Stefanski has named Joe Flacco the starter for Week 1 when Cleveland opens the season at home against the Bengals on September 7.

Flacco has spent the offseason, training camp, and preseason putting himself in position for this moment. He treated camp like a pro — same approach he’s carried throughout his career — stacking good days on the practice field, drilling down on the details, and focusing on being the best version of himself every rep, whether it was in 7-on-7s or full 11-on-11 work.

All camp long, Flacco took the bulk of his snaps with the first-team offense, working alongside the other starters and veterans. Even in joint practices with the Panthers and Eagles, he was the first QB up against their top defensive units. While he didn’t play in the first two preseason games, Stefanski made it clear the final week of preseason would serve as the team’s “dress rehearsal,” and that’s when he wanted a starter in place for Week 1 prep.

Flacco himself said on August 13, “The last couple of weeks, honestly, it’s been pretty good for me. I’ve gotten to get more reps and get comfortable and feel like I’m doing things at a pretty high level.”

Now entering his 18th NFL season, Flacco brings exactly the kind of veteran presence the Browns are counting on. Fans remember the spark he provided back in 2023 when he stepped in late, started five straight games, and led Cleveland to a 4-1 record — capped off by a Thursday night win over the Jets that clinched a playoff berth.

The Browns re-signed him this past April to bolster a revamped QB room, banking on his experience, steady pocket passing, and the kind of leadership that comes with a Super Bowl ring.

Stefanski praised Flacco’s consistency both on and off the field, saying on August 13, *“*Joe’s the same guy that he was then. He’s the same guy every single day. I think that’s one of the things you admire about Joe — how he approaches his business. He’s done a really nice job in camp, providing leadership to the quarterback room, the offense, and the team.”

Week 1 is just around the corner, and it’ll be Joe Flacco under center to set the tone for the Browns’ 2025 season.

The Colts’ quarterback competition is over — and Indianapolis has its starter.

On Tuesday, the team announced that Daniel Jones will be the Colts’ QB1 when they open the 2025 season against the Miami Dolphins on Sept. 7. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero was the first to report the news.

Jones beat out Anthony Richardson, the team’s 2023 fourth-overall pick, who hasn’t shown enough growth to keep hold of the starting job. Instead, it’ll be the former Giants first-rounder and Colts’ offseason addition who takes the reins of Indy’s offense.

“He’s the starting quarterback for the season,” head coach Shane Steichen told the Indianapolis Star. “I don’t want to have a short leash on that.”

The battle itself was close — but not necessarily because either player lit it up. Neither Jones nor Richardson truly separated from the other in camp. Both looked sharper as the preseason went along, but Steichen ultimately leaned toward Jones for one key reason: his command of the offense.

“You guys heard me talk about the consistency. That’s really what I was looking for,” Steichen said. “The operations at the line of scrimmage, the checks, the protection, the ball placement, the completion percentage — all that played a factor. Daniel did a great job there. A.R. has made strides, but he still needs to develop in those areas.”

The experience gap mattered, too. Jones has six seasons and 70 NFL games under his belt, plus the Colts gave him a one-year, $14 million deal in March with over $13 million guaranteed. That investment made it clear the team wanted to see what Jones could do right away.

Richardson didn’t help his case when he dislocated his pinky during the Colts’ Aug. 7 game against Baltimore. The injury knocked him out after just six snaps, while Jones logged 30. That lost time tilted things in Jones’ favor by default.

So Richardson heads into Week 1 in a familiar spot: healthy, but watching from the sideline.

It’s been a rocky start to Richardson’s career. His rookie season ended after just a month because of a shoulder injury. Last year, he missed time with an oblique issue and was briefly benched in favor of Joe Flacco. Across two seasons, Richardson has appeared in only 15 games.

The flashes of potential are there — his athleticism is undeniable — but the consistency hasn’t followed. That’s why the Colts brought in Jones: to create competition, push Richardson, and give the team a steadier option at quarterback in the meantime.

The Miami Dolphins are adding more firepower to their pass rush.

Veteran edge rusher Matt Judon is signing a one-year deal with Miami, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. The contract is worth up to $6 million, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Judon, a four-time Pro Bowler with the Ravens and Patriots, arrives in Miami after a turbulent stretch. He forced his way out of New England’s disastrous 2024 season under Jerod Mayo, landing in Atlanta via trade last August. A year later, he entered free agency without a team before visiting the Dolphins on Monday and agreeing to join Mike McDaniel’s squad.

It’s a crowded room in Miami, with Bradley Chubb, first-round pick Chop Robinson, and Jaelan Phillips already in the fold. Still, the Dolphins wanted more depth and veteran reliability on the edge, and Judon fits that need.

Last season with Atlanta, Judon posted 5.5 sacks while serving as one of the few bright spots for a defense desperate for pass-rush help. His best years came in New England, where he recorded 12.5 sacks in 2021 and followed with 15.5 in 2022. Those days may be behind him, but Miami doesn’t need Judon to play at that level again.

Instead, the Dolphins envision him as part of a rotation in new defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver’s system — a role that plays to his experience while keeping fresh legs in a deep and talented edge group.

A huge sigh of relief can be felt throughout the Cincinnati Bengals fan base after star edge-rusher Trey Hendrickson will be ending his hold-in after signing a raise with the team this afternoon. The $14 million extension was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, stating that the All-Pro and four straight Pro Bowler reached an agreement to have Hendrickson now make $30 million in the 2025 season. Although the hold-in is now officially over with this new deal, Hendrickson is still set to become an unrestricted free agent after this season.

Another hold-in ends: Bengals and Trey Hendrickson reached agreement today on a $14 million raise for this year, boosting his 2025 salary to $30 million dollars, per sources. Hendrickson still is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent after this season. pic.twitter.com/Yhc1iT6ca8
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) August 25, 2025

Bengals fans should be jumping for joy at this news now knowing that the 2024 sack leader will in fact be suiting up and playing for their franchise after a long summer of negotiations that led to Hendrickson not participating in any offseason team activities including training camp. Hendrickson made it very clear to the Bengals front office and owner Mike Brown that he will not do anything football related for the team until they reach a new deal. While some fans might have wondered why Hendrickson was so bullish on receiving a new deal, when you look at the season he had last year it makes complete sense. Hendrickson led the NFL in sacks with 17.5 and over the past two seasons has shown he is one of the most consistent pass rushers in the league.

With Hendrickson making $30 million this year he joins quarterback Joe Burrow and wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase in that category after the Bengals extended Chase in March. Chase’s extension, a four-year deal worth $161 million, became the highest average annual salary for a non-quarterback in NFL history at the time which then prompted the Bengals to extend fellow wide receiver Tee Higgins to a three-year deal worth $115 million.

NFL’s highest-paid edge rushers: pic.twitter.com/EExsRmeM6q
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) August 25, 2025

With Hendrickson, Higgins, and Chase locked up for this season, the Bengals can now focus on their Week 1 matchup against the Cleveland Browns on the road. It will be interesting to see how the extended time off has affected Hendrickson’s ability and conditioning but even with this raise Hendrickson will be looking to have another All-Pro season heading into free agency in 2026.
