New York Knicks center Mitchell Robinson has been listed as Out* for the 6-8 weeks, which is roughly the remainder of the entire postseason, with a left ankle injury.
This has been a recurring injury for Mitchell, who started the first 21 games for New York this season before requiring ankle surgery, which led him to miss 49 straight games. However, regardless of his injury, Mitchell played a huge role in defending Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid in round one of the Eastern Conference Playoffs, where the Knicks eventually defeated the 76ers.
However Mitchell was forced to miss Game 4 with the same ankle injury, and only played 12 minutes in the Western Conference Semi Final Game 1 against the Indiana Pacers. After being reevaluated, Mitchell has been ruled out for a minimum of six weeks, which is a major blow to the Knicks reserve roster.
New York has already lost forward Julius Randle and Bojan Bogdanovic to injuries, which has left them playing a seven to eight-man rotation in the NBA playoffs. With Mitchell out, the rotation is likely to shrink down to six to seven players. While the Knicks captured Game 1 against Indiana, the lack of depth on New York's bench was noticeable, as the Pacers bench outscored the Knicks 46-3.
New York will continue to rely on their newfound star, Jalen Brunson, and his supporting cast of starters to push themselves into the Eastern Conference Finals. Luckily, after capturing Game 1, they are only three games away.
