The Detroit Pistons (31-26) edged out the Atlanta Hawks (26-31) in a high-scoring thriller, securing a 148-143 victory on Friday, February 23, behind a dominant showing from their star guard.
Cade Cunningham led the charge with 38 points, catching fire from beyond the arc with seven three-pointers while also dishing out 12 assists and grabbing seven rebounds. Dennis Schroder provided a spark off the bench, contributing 16 points, including a crucial three-point play in the final seconds to put Detroit ahead for good. Malik Beasley added 24 points, knocking down six triples to help fuel the Pistons' offense.
For Atlanta, Trae Young matched Cunningham’s brilliance with 38 points and 13 assists, keeping the Hawks in the game until the final moments. Georges Niang delivered a season-high 27 points off the bench, connecting on seven three-pointers, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Detroit’s late surge.
The win marks the Pistons' sixth straight victory, strengthening their momentum despite a tough season. They also take a 3-1 lead in the season series against Atlanta. Meanwhile, the Hawks have now dropped three in a row and sit at No. 9 in the Eastern Conference standings.
Detroit will look to extend their winning streak when they face the Indiana Pacers on Sunday, February 25, while the Hawks aim to bounce back against the Miami Heat the same night.
