De’Aaron Fox scored a season-high 28 points and dished out 11 assists as the San Antonio Spurs defeated the Sacramento Kings 123-110 on Sunday, with Victor Wembanyama sidelined for the first time this season due to a calf injury.
Harrison Barnes added 20 points and Devin Vassell chipped in 16 as San Antonio snapped a two-game losing streak.
Wembanyama was ruled out before tipoff with a strained left calf. Spurs coach Mitch Johnson said the injury was progressive and not tied to any single play, and Wembanyama’s status is day-to-day. The Spurs also lost Stephon Castle in the first half with a left-hip injury. Castle had four points in 15:34 of action and did not return for the second half.
Despite missing Wembanyama, San Antonio’s balanced attack carried the day. Seven players scored in double figures, highlighted by Keldon Johnson’s 14 points and 12 rebounds.
DeMar DeRozan led Sacramento with 27 points as the Kings dropped their sixth straight game. Domantas Sabonis added 17 points and 13 boards.
Fox faced his former team for the first time since being traded to San Antonio on February 5 in a three-team deal that sent Zach LaVine to Sacramento. Fox had struggled in his previous matchup with the Kings, scoring only 16 points while going 0-for-6 from 3-point range on March 7. Sunday, he made an immediate impact, hitting his first field goal and opening two 3-pointers, finishing 4-for-8 from deep and 11-for-20 from the field overall.
The Spurs picked up their first win of a five-game homestand after losing leads late in back-to-back losses to Golden State.
