Stephen Curry exploded for 46 points, including 29 in the second half, to lead the Golden State Warriors past the San Antonio Spurs 125–120 on Wednesday night at Frost Bank Center, spoiling a historic night for Victor Wembanyama and rookie Stephon Castle.
Curry hit five 3-pointers in the third quarter and went a perfect 9-for-9 from the free-throw line in the period, rallying Golden State from a 16-point deficit. His fourth triple of the night gave the Warriors a 74–73 lead — their first since the opening minutes — as they outscored the Spurs 76–64 in the second half to secure the win.
Jimmy Butler added 28 points and eight assists for Golden State, and Moses Moody chipped in 19 as the Warriors snapped a stretch of three losses in their previous four games.
Wembanyama notched his fourth career triple-double with 31 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 assists, while Castle added 23 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists. It marked the first time in Spurs history that two teammates recorded triple-doubles in the same game.
Despite the loss — San Antonio’s first at home this season — the Spurs showed flashes of brilliance, highlighted by a series of alley-oop dunks in the second quarter that helped them build a 16-point lead. Wembanyama also extended his streak to 96 consecutive games with a blocked shot, swatting a 25-foot attempt from Draymond Green in the opening minutes.
Golden State made the difference at the foul line, converting 32 of 36 free throws compared to San Antonio’s 14 of 16.
The Warriors improved to 1–1 on their six-game road trip, while the Spurs fell to 3–1 at home.
The Warriors and Spurs meet again Friday night in San Antonio.
