Anthony Edwards suffered a left ankle injury, yet was able to return against the Warriors in Game 2 victory.

The Timberwolves have seen Anthony Edwards in pain before. But when their star guard crumpled to the floor in the second quarter Thursday night, even he wasn’t sure if he’d return.

“This one, I was really worried about, actually,” head coach Chris Finch said after the 117-93 win over Golden State. “I was really planning on not seeing him the rest of the game, to be honest with you.”

Edwards sprained his left ankle after Warriors center Trayce Jackson-Davis landed on it during a fast break. Unable to put weight on the foot, Edwards had to be helped off the court, drawing concern from teammates, coaches, and even Draymond Green, who came over to check on him.

However, after receiving treatment from Timberwolves medical staff, including the vice president of medical operations, David Hines, Edwards made a surprise return. The crowd erupted as he reappeared for warmups before the second half.

“Once we got to like the third movement in my ankle, I’m like, ‘All right, it’s starting to feel good. If we tape it, I’ll see how it feels,” Edwards said. “Big shoutout to David. He makes sure I’m good before I get back out there.”

Edwards finished with 20 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and three steals in the blowout win that evened the second-round series at 1-1. His athleticism shone through when he converted a lob from Julius Randle for a layup late in the third quarter, a sequence that confirmed he was good to go.

“That one was crazy,” Edwards said. “But I’ll be all right.”

His teammate Jaden McDaniels reacted more simply: “Superman, for real.”

Game 3 is set for Saturday in San Francisco, with Edwards expected to play.
