P.J. Washington Jr. and Cooper Flagg scored 21 points each and teamed up on a key basket late in overtime to lift the Dallas Mavericks to a 138-133 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday night.
Dallas trailed 129-130 with 1:39 remaining in OT when Flagg grabbed the rebound of a missed 3-pointer by Shaedon Sharpe and threw an outlet to Washington for a jam during a decisive 6-0 run. Daniel Gafford added 20 points, including seven in overtime, and was one of seven Mavericks in double figures. The win snapped Dallas’ three-game losing streak, moving the team to 4-10.
Sharpe scored a season-high 36 points for Portland, while Deni Avdija added 29 before fouling out with 1:39 left on the play that allowed Gafford to make two free throws and put Dallas ahead for good. Jerami Grant, starting in place of Jrue Holiday (right calf soreness), contributed 26 points.
The Mavericks were perfect in overtime on their seven field-goal attempts, all 2-pointers. Portland dominated the glass with 22 offensive rebounds, seven from Donovan Clingan (11 total), resulting in a 32-10 advantage in second-chance points.
Dallas’ Anthony Davis remained sidelined with a left calf strain, missing his ninth straight game. The 32-year-old 10-time All-Star is expected to miss another 7–10 days and has been limited since being traded from the Lakers in February, sitting out 31 of 47 possible games.
