Rockets vs. Magic

Kevin Durant scored 35 points and Alperen Sengun added 30 points with 12 rebounds to lead the Houston Rockets to a 117-113 overtime victory over the Orlando Magic on Sunday night.

Orlando held a slim lead late in overtime before Amen Thompson gave Houston the edge with a dunk assisted by Durant with under a minute left. Jabari Smith Jr. blocked Franz Wagner’s layup, and Durant’s step-back jumper pushed the Rockets ahead 113-110 with 9.2 seconds remaining.

Wagner hit two free throws with 8.7 seconds left to pull the Magic within one, but Reed Sheppard answered with two free throws for Houston to extend the lead to 115-112 with 4.1 seconds left. Wendell Carter Jr. made one free throw but was called for a lane violation on the second, leaving the Rockets up 115-113. Thompson then sank two clutch free throws to seal Houston’s fourth consecutive win.

Wagner scored a season-high 29 points, and Desmond Bane added 26 points to lead Orlando in a game without Paolo Banchero and Jalen Suggs, both sidelined with groin injuries.

The Rockets overcame an 11-point fourth-quarter deficit, tying the game at 100 with a Durant 3-pointer in the final 21.4 seconds of regulation. Sengun’s late defensive block initially gave Orlando possession, but after a successful challenge, the call was overturned. Sengun’s layup with the clock expiring tied the game at 102 and sent it to overtime.

Houston’s balanced attack and clutch execution down the stretch allowed them to escape with the hard-fought win.
