Andrew Wiggins finished a perfect alley-oop from Nikola Jovic at the buzzer in overtime, giving the Miami Heat a dramatic 140–138 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers in one of the wildest games of the young NBA season Monday night.

Norman Powell led Miami with 33 points, while Jaime Jaquez Jr. delivered a huge all-around performance off the bench with 22 points, 13 rebounds, and seven assists. Wiggins added 23 points — none bigger than his game-winning dunk — and rookie Kel’el Ware posted 14 points and 20 rebounds as the short-handed Heat improved to 5–0 at home.
Donovan Mitchell nearly spoiled the night for Miami, finishing with 28 points, 15 rebounds, and eight assists, including a deep 3-pointer that tied the game with just 0.4 seconds left in overtime. But on the ensuing inbounds play, Jovic lofted a perfect lob to Wiggins, who slammed it home as time expired to send the Kaseya Center crowd into a frenzy.
De’Andre Hunter scored 23 points for Cleveland, and Evan Mobley added 21 points and 10 rebounds. The Cavaliers attempted 120 shots — including a staggering 65 from beyond the arc — and connected on 21, extending their NBA-record streak to 98 straight regular-season games with at least 10 made 3-pointers.
The win carried extra meaning for Miami, which was humiliated by Cleveland in last season’s playoffs, getting swept by a combined margin of 122 points — the most lopsided postseason series in NBA history.
“It was humbling,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said of that series. “It was embarrassing. But not tonight.”
Playing without Bam Adebayo (toe) and Tyler Herro (heel), the Heat showed grit against a Cavs team that lost Darius Garland in the third quarter to a toe injury. Cleveland coach Kenny Atkinson was also ejected late in the period after a heated exchange with officials.
The two teams will face off again in Miami on Wednesday night.
