Trailing by as many as 14 points in the first half, the Wizards chipped away at the deficit before locking in defensively late. Washington held Brooklyn scoreless for the final 4:45, closing the game on an 11-2 run to take control.
The Nets were led by Ziaire Williams, who finished with 19 points, while Cameron Johnson added 17. Brooklyn got off to a fast start, moving the ball well and knocking down shots, but their offense stalled late as the Wizards tightened up on defense.
Washington will visit the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday, February 26, looking to build on the win. Meanwhile, the Nets travel to Oklahoma City to take on the Thunder, hoping to bounce back.
