Dallas Mavericks rookie Cooper Flagg will sit out the team’s first game back from the All-Star break at Minnesota on Friday due to a left midfoot sprain, the same injury that kept him out of the Castrol Rising Stars event.
Coach Jason Kidd said Thursday that Flagg is considered day-to-day. The 19-year-old sustained the injury in a Feb. 10 loss at Phoenix and also missed the final game before the break against the Los Angeles Lakers. An MRI confirmed the midfoot sprain.
Flagg has now missed six games this season. He averaged 20.4 points and 6.6 assists per game before the injury. His first absence came in November due to illness.
During the All-Star break, Flagg visited his alma mater, Duke, attending two games. He was seen in a walking boot during the Blue Devils’ win over Clemson but was not wearing it when boarding the plane to Minnesota.
The Mavericks, who lost their ninth straight game to the Lakers and hold a 19-35 record, are out of playoff contention and headed toward the draft lottery for the second consecutive year. They selected Flagg with the 1.8% draft-rights chance last summer. Dallas has two more road games following the trip to Minnesota.
