Cam Spencer scored 21 points and delivered in the closing moments as the Memphis Grizzlies edged the San Antonio Spurs 106-105 on Tuesday night, snapping a four-game losing streak despite a 30-point performance from Victor Wembanyama.
Spencer scored five of his points in the final 1:26 and knocked down a 10-foot baseline jumper with 36.5 seconds remaining that proved to be the game’s final basket. San Antonio had one last chance to win, but De’Aaron Fox’s 15-footer in the closing seconds was blocked by Santi Aldama, preserving the Memphis victory.
Jaren Jackson Jr. also scored 21 points for the Grizzlies, while Jock Landale added 19. Spencer filled the stat sheet with eight rebounds and eight assists. Wembanyama led all scorers in his return from a two-game absence, finishing with 30 points on 10-of-20 shooting in 21 minutes, including 3 of 6 from beyond the arc. Julian Champagnie added 23 points for San Antonio, and Stephon Castle scored 15 before fouling out late.
The game swung after halftime, as Memphis opened the third quarter on a 20-7 run to erase an 11-point deficit. Wembanyama scored 12 in the period to keep the Spurs close, but the Grizzlies carried an 82-81 lead into the fourth. After a sloppy first half from both teams, Spencer’s late surge helped Memphis withstand a brief Spurs rally and secure the narrow win.
