Kevin Huerter drilled a corner 3-pointer just before the buzzer as the Chicago Bulls stunned the Boston Celtics 114–111 on Saturday night, capping an emotional evening at the United Center that ended with the retirement of Derrick Rose’s No. 1 jersey.
Coby White scored 22 points and knocked down five of Chicago’s 21 3-pointers as the Bulls won their fourth straight game. Nikola Vučević added 16 points, while Jalen Smith and Matas Buzelis finished with 14 apiece in a balanced effort against the Eastern Conference’s second-place team.
Chicago appeared poised to close it out late, but after White missed a driving layup and Smith couldn’t convert the putback, Jaylen Brown grabbed the rebound and drove in for a tying layup with 14 seconds remaining. Out of a timeout, the Bulls worked the ball to Huerter, who buried the game-winning 3 from the corner with less than a second on the clock. Huerter arrived at the arena wearing a No. 1 jersey in tribute to Rose.
Brown led Boston with 33 points, while Anfernee Simons scored 21. Derrick White contributed 15 points, seven rebounds and seven assists for the Celtics, who couldn’t recover after the late collapse.
The dramatic win gave the home crowd one last reason to celebrate before Rose’s jersey was raised to the rafters. The former MVP became just the fifth player in franchise history to have his number retired, joining Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Jerry Sloan and Bob Love.
