The New York Knicks have reportedly agreed to acquire guard Jose Alvarado from the New Orleans Pelicans in exchange for Dalen Terry, two second-round picks, and cash, according to multiple reports. The move adds defensive depth to New York’s backcourt as the team looks to strengthen its perimeter ahead of the playoff push.

Alvarado is averaging 7.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and nearly one steal per game this season, continuing a streak in which he has averaged at least one steal per game every year of his career. Known for his anticipation and ability to disrupt opposing ball-handlers, Alvarado earned the nickname “Grand Theft Alvarado” during his college career and was named ACC Defensive Player of the Year in 2021.

A New York native with Puerto Rican heritage, Alvarado has also represented Puerto Rico internationally, including at the 2024 Paris Olympics. His addition gives the Knicks a defensive-minded guard capable of creating turnovers and energizing the team’s backcourt.
