The San Antonio Spurs continued their dominant stretch Sunday night, rolling past the Houston Rockets 145–120 behind another standout performance from Victor Wembanyama.
Wembanyama finished with 29 points, while De'Aaron Fox recorded 20 points and 10 assists. Stephon Castle added 23 points and Keldon Johnson chipped in 20 as San Antonio won its fourth straight game and 15th in its last 16.
The Spurs were nearly unstoppable offensively, shooting a season-best 58% from the field and 21-of-40 from three-point range while piling up 38 assists. They also dominated inside with 56 points in the paint, pulling away as the game progressed.
San Antonio seized control in the second quarter after Houston briefly led late in the first. The Rockets’ only leads came at 27–26 late in the opening quarter and 33–32 at the end of the period, but the Spurs quickly responded and never looked back.
Wembanyama set the tone early, opening the scoring with a 26-foot three-pointer before later throwing down a reverse dunk through contact for a three-point play that stretched the Spurs’ lead to 83–61 early in the third quarter.
Houston was led by Kevin Durant and Amen Thompson, who each scored 23 points, but the Rockets struggled defensively and allowed their highest point total of the season.
With the win, San Antonio improved to 47–17, strengthened its hold on the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference, and claimed the season series 3–1 over Houston. The Spurs sit 2½ games behind the Oklahoma City Thunder, while the Rockets fell to 39–24, dropping to fourth in the West, just behind the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Up next: Houston will try to bounce back Tuesday night when it hosts the Toronto Raptors. The Spurs remain at home Tuesday to face the Boston Celtics.
