Indiana Pacers point guard Tyrese Haliburton has been diagnosed with shingles and will be sidelined for a few weeks, head coach Rick Carlisle announced Sunday.
Haliburton, who has not played this season while recovering from the torn Achilles he suffered in Game 7 of last year’s NBA Finals, has still been attending games and sitting on the bench.
“It’s a very painful thing,” Carlisle told reporters, according to Sports Illustrated. “He will make a full recovery, but this developed over the last few days. He was meeting us in D.C., experienced some unusual symptoms, and then came back here. We certainly wish him a speedy recovery. It’s a unique case, but I’ve talked to him a few times, and he’s always in good spirits—he’ll get through it.”
Shingles, caused by the same virus responsible for chickenpox, is characterized by a painful skin rash and discomfort.
Without their star point guard, the Pacers have struggled, posting a 15-43 record this season—the worst in the Eastern Conference.
