The Golden State Warriors are reportedly acquiring Kristaps Porziņģis from the Atlanta Hawks, parting ways with forward Jonathan Kuminga and guard Buddy Hield in a trade that gives Kuminga his wish to be moved. Atlanta will receive both Kuminga and Hield in the deal, while Golden State adds the 7-footer to strengthen its frontcourt.

Kuminga, 23, had sat out Tuesday’s 113–94 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers with a bone bruise in his left knee, marking his fifth straight missed game. The high-flying forward had not been used in 17 of 18 contests before that, though Warriors coach Steve Kerr emphasized that the trade request was not due to any personal issues between player and coach. In 20 games this season with 13 starts, the Democratic Republic of the Congo native is averaging 12.1 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists. He is under a two-year contract that could be worth up to $46.5 million if Golden State exercises its option for 2026–27.

Porziņģis, who won an NBA championship with the Celtics in 2024, has struggled with injuries in his first season with Atlanta and last played on January 7. He is shooting 36% from three-point range in 2025–26, but Golden State hopes his size and scoring ability will provide a reliable presence in the paint. The trade gives the Warriors a veteran big man while giving Kuminga a fresh start and Atlanta additional roster flexibility.
