Injury Round Up

Player Updates

Von Miller

Standout Buffalo Bills outside linebacker Von Miller has been officially placed on IR. Von Miller suffered a lateral meniscus tear and was seeking multiple opinions on the injury regarding treatment. It looks as though they have decided to try and let him manage the symptoms for now and return for a playoff run foregoing surgery until after the season. Von will have to see how he progresses and could still end up missing the rest of this season if he can’t make it back to the field at the level he would like but for now his earliest return is slated for Week 17 against the Bengals.

Aaron Rodgers

Rodgers went on the Pat McAfee show this week and reported that he was planning on playing. Coach Matt LaFleur also said that if he could play he would be out there. Since that time Rodgers has said “I’m definitely progressing and feeling better than I thought I was gonna feel on Wednesday”. That combined with logging a limited practice while having his thumb taped and rib protection I would say that there is a good chance we see him this weekend. One bad hit could take him out again but I think Rodgers will try to do everything in his power to see that field.

Justin Fields

Fields had both a limited and a full practice this week trending him upwards towards playing this week. He has been dealing with his AC Joint sprain. Luckily it is in his non-throwing shoulder so if he and the medical team have been able to combat the pain and swelling he should be able to pad that up and start against the Packers this weekend. Looks like it may be the battle of the injured QBs for this weeks game meaning the offensive lines will have big jobs protecting their offensive leaders.

Michael Carter

Carter missed practice Wednesday and Thursday which is a bad sign for the Jets RB. Ankle injuries can be tough to play through especially at a position that requires so much power and change of direction. I wouldn’t expect to see him this week. Even if he is able to go that ankle will slow him down. Better to give him the extra week to rest.

Josh Jacobs

After his massive performance last week lifting the Raiders to a much needed morale boosting win Jacobs is dealing with a calf injury. He briefly left the game this past weekend for the same injury and was able to come back and put up huge numbers. He has been able to log two limited practices during a week that he would reportedly not practice much at all to try and get him ready for this weekend. That tells us that he is trending towards playing considering he is pushing to get on the field in any fashion at all. Hopefully he doesn’t re-aggravate it trying to push too hard but it is definitely an injury to watch.

Travis Etienne

Etienne was dealing with a foot injury but was cleared to return to the game last weekend. The coaching staff kept him out to be safe and make sure he didn’t worsen the injury. He has been limited in practice both days this week. Expect him to play this weekend considering the clearance last week and him getting in reps.

Christian McCaffrey

McCaffrey is dealing with some knee irritation but is managing the injury. He didn’t practice Wednesday but is at practice today. With Elijah Mitchell already out the 49ers will look to McCaffrey with Jordan Mason and Tyrion Davis-Price as the two below him on the depth chart. McCaffrey always is banged up considering his usage and I expect to see him on the field. He has missed quite a few games in the past for certain injuries but also has been known to try to grind through the bumps and bruises that football brings. With the 49ers needing his electric boost and the medical staff trying to calm the knee down he will most likely make it to the field this weekend.
