    Update:

The 49ers have now come out and said though originally they felt that surgery was absolutely necessary, they no longer believe Jimmy G will need surgery. The injury is not a LisFranc andJimmy could be ready after 7-8 weeks. He still has a chance to make a playoff appearance but that still seems unlikely at this point given he will need to recover and heal and then test the foot followed by football activities before he can return.

    Jimmy Garoppolo Foot Fracture

Jimmy G fractured his foot in yesterday’s victory over the Miami Dolphins. What was first reported as an ankle injury by the team was later changed to foot fracture following imaging. The report is a dagger as it will abruptly end Garoppolo’s season and rest the playoff hopes of so many in the hands of Brock Purdy.

The 49ers still have a quiver of offensive weapons but to what extent can they keep the momentum moving forward and get Purdy up to speed to be able to play at the level they need him? Though the exact fracture pattern and additional soft tissue injuries haven’t been released to the public, coach Kyle Shanahan did say he “broke a few things in there” so we know its multiple fractures. This will take screws and plates to fix and will be a minimum of 4 months to recover enough for football related activities according to our very own @SportsDocMatt. That will take him well into the offseason and with him being on a one-year contract with the 49ers possibly the end of his time with the team.
