Josh Allen was injured this past weekend late in the 4th quarter. With one last possession to win it for the Bills, New York Jets defensive end Bryce Huff came off the edge and hit Josh Allen's arm as he went to throw. Not only causing a fumble but injuring the ulnar collateral ligament in his throwing arm as well.
The Ulnar Collateral Ligament is sits on the medial (Inner) side of the elbow and connects the Humerus to the Ulna. It helps with stability of the elbow and when injured in sports can cause pain as well as issues with grip, accuracy and velocity on the ball.
#Bills QB Josh Allen is being evaluated for a UCL injury in his right elbow and nerve issue. The team is still awaiting more tests but definitely something to watch as it's in his throwing elbow and he has said he is feeling "slight pain" following the game. #InjuryUpdate #NFL pic.twitter.com/qfAxtFkeYS

It has now been reported that Josh Allen has sprained his UCL. An injury that is not uncommon for him. He suffered the same injury in 2018 that caused him to miss 4 games. These typically take a few weeks to heal and can take up to 2-3 months in some cases. Athletes get can get treatment up to 3-4 times per day usually shortening their recovery period. However, The body takes its own time to heal and even with advancements these days it can still take a few weeks to heal properly. So what can we expect?
Most likely Josh Allen will be back by next week. He was able to finish the drive and threw almost 70 yards a few plays later. Whether he plays this week is what is up in the air. With the Bills taking on the Vikings in a big match-up Sunday Im sure Josh will do anything to be on the field however if the elbow continues to casue issues gripping the football or any accuracy issues he may need to wait the extra week.
Allen didn't participate in practice Wednesday which was expected given the injury and his knowledge of the offense. If he misses Thursday however I would expect he is on a path to not playing this weekend however as it stands now the team is optimistic he will be able to suit up.
Coach Sean McDermott describes Josh Allen as “day-to-day” and “we'll see” if he plays. https://t.co/9uM3UD1sNA

For now we will have to wait and see if he is able to start this week, if not heCase Keenum will make the start against his old team. The Bills have their eyes on the playoffs and Superbowl and know the importance of Josh Allen to get there. If its between this week and long term health expect Allen to sit this weekend.
