Von Miller's ACL Surgery Ends His Season
- Von Miller had knee surgery yesterday for his week 12 injury. When the injury first occured, the major concern was for an ACL tear by our very own @SportsDocMatt. It was reported later however that he suffered a lateral meniscus tear. The reports coming from the Bills camp were that he would seek additional opinions and decide on whether to have surgery right away on the meniscus tear and end his season or wait to repair it until the offseason.

Well, it has now been reported that he did in fact go in for an exploratory surgery to get the full picture of what was going on and that his ACL was torn and repaired while in there along with the additional injured structures. Ian Rapoport breaks it down below.
Details on Von Miller's surgery:
-- MRI and other images did not adequately show a torn ACL.
-- Original plan for surgery was to reposition the lateral meniscus that had moved into another channel, while also cleaning up cartilage damage.
-- During surgery, they found ACL torn.— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) December 7, 2022
This is a great reminder that though imaging is an excellent tool it doesn’t always tell the full story and that the surgical scope can reveal more than originally diagnosed. The ACL reconstruction will of course end Von Miller’s season. A hard hit for a team that is sure to make the playoffs and were hoping to have Miller in the lineup to pressure opposing QB’s. Miller will now look to rehabbing as he looks to next year. ACL reconstructions usually take 9-12 months to recover fully from so Von may be fully healed by the start of next season, but most likely will need a little more time (think Chase Young) and should be able to return sometime between the October-November time frame next year assuming all goes according to plan.
