    Dalvin Cook Contract

Former Vikings running back Dalvin Cook has signed with the New York Jets on a one-year deal worth up to $8.6 million, according to multiple sources.

Cook is joining his former NFC North rival Aaron Rodgers, where they hope to lead the Jets to their first winning record since 2015.

    Dalvin Cook Career

Cook has been a free agent since the Vikings released him on June 1, 2023. During his six-year tenure with the Vikings he ran for 5,993 yards and 47 touchdowns. Cook also hauled in 221 receptions for 1,794 yards and 5 touchdowns. He was also selected to the Pro Bowl four times while with the Vikings.

Cook is looking to make this year his fifth straight season with over 1,000 rushing yards. He is coming off a season in which he put up 1,173 yards and 8 touchdowns. It was also his first season where he played in every game.

    Jets RB Injury Concerns

Cook will now be paired with Breece Hall, a talented running back going into his second season. Hall rushed for 463 yards and 4 touchdowns in his 7 games last year before tearing his ACL. Due to this injury, Cook will most likely see more touches the first couple weeks of the season while Breece Hall gets into game shape and speed.

Cook is also coming off shoulder surgery, so both running backs will be coming off serious surgeries going into the beginning of the season. He has dealt with this shoulder injury all throughout his college and professional career, but should be good to go week one.

Both are expected to be back to training camp before the first week of the regular season. When both backs are at full health, this will be more of a 1A/1B backfield, and we will see the two split touches most games.

    Analysis

Cook’s veteran presence helps bolster an already strong New York Jets roster. His veteran presence will help the Jets’ young talent on and off the field, and help them improve.

The Jets should be able to push their way into the playoffs, and the extra depth on their roster could potentially lead them to a deep run.
