    Derek Carr throws a pass

New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr suffered a sprained AC joint in the second quarter of their Week three loss against the Green Bay Packers.

"I think we dodged a bullet in terms of real significance," said Head Coach Dennis Allen.

Carr went down in the third quarter after being sacked by Green Bay Packers linebacker Rashan Gary, who finished the game with three solo sacks, which is a season-high for him.

Before Carr's injury, the Saints dominated through three quarters, shutting out the Packers 17-0 until the 11-minute mark of the fourth quarter, when Anders Carlson kicked a 38-yard field goal to get the Packers on the board.

While the Saints' offense only contributed ten out of their 17 points, Carr's Injury changed the entire team's confidence, not only their offensive production. Backup quarterback Jameis Winston could not score against the Packers' tough defense but could throw for 101 yards, only two less than Carr threw for before his injury.

    Jamies Winston Throws a Pass

Carr is currently week to week as he recovers from his AC joint sprain, which means Winston will be on call for their Week 4 matchup against his former team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Although Winston has been a backup QB for New Orleans since 2020, he has proved he can play at the highest level in college after winning the Heisman Trophy and the AP Player of the Year in 2013 and capturing the BCS national championship and MVP in 2014. He also proved he can compete in the NFL, where in his last season with the Buccaneers in 2019, he threw for 5,109 yards and 33 touchdowns in 16 games.

Jameis has much to prove if the Saints rule Derek Carr out for Week 4 when the Buccaneers travel to the Superdome.
