What was initially labeled a contusion. has turned out to be worse. Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams suffered a back fracture in Sundays loss to the Denver Broncos a game that he didn't need to be in in the first place.
The injury has been labeled as a non-surgical fracture that would keep him off the field for 2-3 weeks. With it being the playoffs unless the Chargers can have a cinderella story type of playoff run to the Super Bowl this would end his season. In a controversial game plan that saw Brandon Staley use his starters essentially the entire time this was one of the worst possible outcomes.
Mike Williams strength, size and body control make him a cheat code in the redzone and he has amassed 895 yards this season even with missing 4 games due to a high ankle sprain and leaving after his 1st catch in week 11 after re-aggravating that ankle.
The good news is that Williams will be able to heal and return next season for the start of the season considering the diagnosis but that still won't put Chargers fans mind at ease knowing they lost one of their top targets when he could have been resting for the playoffs.
