Tre'Davious White

In the early window of week 4, the Buffalo Bills proved they are still one of the top teams to beat in the AFC after blowing out the Miami Dolphins 48-20 Sunday in Buffalo. Josh Allen looked like the Josh Allen the NFL has come to know and love after going 21-25 for 320 yards and 4 touchdowns. Allen’s favorite target Stefon Diggs had another vintage game hauling in 6 receptions for 120 yards and 3 touchdowns to torch the Dolphin’s secondary into submission. While the Bills looked refreshed on offense, commanding the game on both sides of the ball, the Bills defense lost a major leader and presence at cornerback with a minute left in the third quarter.

Six year veteran and major defensive playmaker Tre’Davious White is believed to have suffered an achilles injury while covering Dolphin’s wideout Tyreek Hill on a 4th and 1 conversion. The injury seemed to be non-contact but White had to be carted off the field to the locker room. The burden of losing Tre’davious White for the season will be a heavy weight for the Bills secondary to adjust to. Since being drafted in 2017, White has accumulated a solid resume; 81 games played, 308 total tackles, 239 solo tackles, 69 assisted, 5 forced fumbles, and 18 interceptions. His impact is apparent on paper but the energy and tenacity that White brings to the Bills defense will be tough to replace. Christian Benford should step in to try to fill White’s shoes. Benford is in his second season in the NFL after getting drafted in the sixth round of the 2022 draft with a career resume of 12 games played, 34 total tackles, 24 solo tackles, and 10 assisted tackles.

After exposing the Miami Dolphins with a 28 point win the Buffalo Bills are starting to shape into the team that everyone thought they would be coming into the season. Although, without Tre’Davious White to help cover other teams top receivers, the Bills offense will need to continue to have production like they did today in order to take pressure off Buffalo’s secondary to insure a competitive product. The Bills proved they are a well rounded football team today, but if Josh Allen and the Bills offense can’t produce on a consistent basis, winning the AFC East might be a more challenging task than previously thought.
