Although the Dallas Cowboys sit atop the NFC East at 2-0, it is going to be difficult to maintain this position after losing star cornerback Trevon Diggs to a torn ACL today in practice. Adversity is a major variable in professional sports but this adversity will be a long term hurdle that will be hard to overcome after the now absence of one of the best corners in the NFL. Trevon Diggs suffered the injury in a one-on-one drill in practice today and was seen moving around the team facility on crutches before receiving the MRI that would ultimately confirm that his season is over.
Cowboys’ statement on standout CB Trevon Diggs and the torn ACL he suffered at today’s practice: “A timetable for Diggs’ return to play has not been established, but he is currently projected to miss the remainder of the current season.”

The loss of Trevon Diggs is a massive one to the Cowboys defense and team as a whole after the breakout season that Diggs had in 2021, curating Diggs to be the CB1 for Dallas. In 2021, Diggs played 16 games with 11 interceptions and two touchdowns that would ultimately give him the accolades of: 1st-team All-Pro, NFL interception leader, and his first Pro Bowl selection. Diggs followed up his breakout season with another Pro Bowl selection and reaffirming that he is Dallas’s CB1. With their star cornerback done only two weeks into the season, the Cowboys will have to move players around in order to give opposite corner Stephon Gilmore enough support.
The player that will be replacing Trevon Diggs will be familiar face DaRon Bland. Bland will be the CB2 to Gilmore and should be able to give him enough help after leading the Cowboys in interceptions in 2022. Bland has already made his presence known this season after taking a pick-six to the endzone in week 1 against the New York Giants along with 4 solo tackles in 2023. Not having Diggs will be a major locker room and defensive experience for the Cowboys but I would not worry this week as Dallas goes to Arizona to play the struggling Cardinals. Fans in Dallas should be preparing for October, having to play San Francisco, Los Angeles Chargers, and Philadelphia, all of whom have a stellar wide receiver corps. Hopefully Dak Prescott and the Cowboys offense can continue the success they've been having early on and take pressure off of the defense, and especially their secondary.
