After a dismal start to the final game of week 5 of the NFL season, the Las Vegas Raiders were able to find some offensive rhythm and defeat the Green Bay Packers 17-13 on Monday Night Football. The Raiders stayed committed to forcing Packers’ quarterback Jordan Love to beat them through the air resulting in Love going 16-30 for 182 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception. Love’s poor passing performance was attributed to Maxx Crosby, Raiders’ edge rusher who had a “game wrecker” style game with 5 total tackles, 4 tackles for loss, and a sack. Crosby was flying by the Packers’ offensive line all night which caused Love to force the issue through the air. Jimmy Garappalo had a steady performance for the Raiders; 22-31, 208 yards, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception. Garoppolo was able to move the chains efficiently with the help of Josh Jacobs rushing for 75 yards and a touchdown.

The visiting Green Bay Packers came into this primetime matchup with a BUS score of 78.5 and was directly reflected in their performance tonight. With banged up players throughout their defense, the Packers’ performed admirably but were not able to stop Jacobs on the ground which ultimately helped seal their defeat. The Packers are also in the teething process when it comes to Jordan Love’s growth as a starter as Green Bay now moves to 2-3 after Love’s 3 interception performance. The Packers’ offensive line did not give Love the time he needed to process the Raiders’ coverages but Love also made a blatant misread in coverage, cultivating in Love throwing an embarrassing interception. Some hope can be found in Green Bay’s tape as A.J. Dillon filled in for Aaron Jones, 20 carries for 76 yards and a touchdown. Love will continue to make mistakes as he learns how to win in this league, but things could turn south quickly for the Packers’ season if Love continues to have multi-turnover games and the Packers struggle to put points on the board in the first half. The Packers will look to get back to .500 as they travel to the struggling 1-4 Denver Broncos.

Josh McDaniels and the Las Vegas Raiders can go into week 6 feeling some relief after closing out a close 17-13 win against a gritty Packers club. Raiders fans can rest easy as Jimmy Garappolo looked steady tonight and managed the game script well even though their offense had a slow start in the second half. Jakobi Meyers continues to be a solid WR2 in support for Davante Adams after accruing 10 targets tonight. It is also encouraging to see the Raiders’ offense still be successful in moving the chains even with their star receiver in Adams only going for 4 receptions and 45 yards. Maybe it was due to Jaire Alexander shadowing Adams for the good portion of the game, but I would be shocked to not see Adams targets lead the team next week as the Raiders welcome the lethargic 1-4  New England Patriots to the strip. Look for the Raiders to keep their winning ways rolling as they move to 3-3 following week 6.
