A battle of two 5-1 teams ended the week 7 Sunday slate with the Dolphins visiting the Eagles. After a brutal loss to the New York Jets in week 6, the Philadelphia Eagles came into Lincoln Financial Field Sunday night and beat the Miami Dolphins 31-17 via complete team effort. Philadelphia’s offense found momentum early after taking a 17-3 late into the first half. Miami found themselves off to a slow start which was quickly jump started by a 27 yard touchdown reception by Tyreek Hill to bring the Dolphins within one possession going into halftime down, 17-10. Following the break, the Eagles continued to utilize their momentum from the first half after a controversial no facemask call on a Dolphins 4th down conversion attempt to give the Eagles the ball. The following play, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts attempted to throw a shallow screen that got tipped and intercepted for a touchdown by Jerome Baker to roar the Dolphins back even, 17-17. Jalen Hurts and Philadelphia’s “brotherly shove” continued to be an effective response to any Dolphins momentum in the second half as they ran it over three times on the game sealing drive for the Eagles; 13 plays for 83 yards, taking 6:35 off the clock and extending the Eagles lead to 31-17.

Miami now moves to 5-2 after being held to under 275 yards for the first time this season. The Dolphins came into tonight’s matchup averaging 316 yards on offense a game but Tua Tagovailoa’s; 23/32, 216 yards, TD, and interception performance did not reflect how lethal this offense has been to start the season. Tyreek Hill had a modest, for him, 11 receptions for 88 yards and a TD helped the Dolphins put up a fighting chance but this loss is a testament to Philadelphia’s stellar defensive performance as well as Jaylen Waddle having to leave the game in the second quarter with an apparent back injury. Waddle would return in the fourth, finishing the game with 6 receptions for 63 yards. The Dolphins have some questions to answer on offense after being significantly slowed down tonight through the air and shut down on the ground, rushing for 45 yards total. The Dolphins find themselves back in South Beach next week with a date with the 2-5 New England Patriots who are fresh off a major upset win over the Buffalo Bills.

The Philadelphia Eagles’ locker room was quoted to be mad and upset after their loss to the Jets last week, with this mood coming through in their dominant win over the Miami Dolphins. Jalen Hurts went 23/31 for 279 yards, 2 throwing TDs, 1 rushing TD, and an interception. Hurts continued to feed his favorite target A.J. Brown; 10 receptions for 137 yards and touchdown. Brown has now had 5 straight games with 125+ receiving yards which ties him with Calvin Johnson as the only two players to do so since the NFL/AFL merger. To aid in Brown’s monster performance, Philadelphia’s defense came to play, sacking Tagovailoa three times and intercepting him late in the fourth quarter to then allow the Eagles to ice the game with a long drive resulting in a Kenneth Gainwell touchdown. The Eagles defense put pressure on the Dolphins QB and shut down the run early which forced Miami to abandon the run game and play from behind the whole night. Philadelphia’s defense also played a clean game all evening, going penalty free. Hurts and his 6-1 Eagles will try to keep their near perfect start rolling as they travel to division rival the (3-4) Washington Commanders next week which could turn out to be a closer game than the stats on paper might predict.
