The Kansas City Chiefs have waived WR Kadarious Toney after just two seasons with the organization.
Toney recorded 27 catches for 169 yards and a touchdown in 2023. However, his season was extremely controversial due to multiple mental mistakes throughout the regular season. Toney’s lack of focus earned him a spot on the bench in the Chiefs' 2024 playoff run, during which Kansas City eventually hoisted the Lombardi Trophy after defeating the 49ers in overtime.
Toney was a victim of multiple dropped passes throughout the season, passes that ended up being completed to the defense due to Toney’s issue with catching the ball. While he caught 27 passes, he was targeted 38 times all season, catching 71% if all passes thrown to him.

Throughout the 2023 NFL season Toney was ridiculed on social media reletlesly for his drops, with many taking the time to point out a plethora of mistakes made by Toney.

The culmination of his ridicule came on December 10, 2023, when the Chiefs were defeated by the Buffalo Bills 20-17. Toney scored what potentially could have been the game-winning TD with 1:12 left in the 4th quarter after catching a lateral pass from Kansas City TE Travis Kelce. However, Toney’s glory was short-lived as the play was called back due to him being offside, which eventually resulted in the Chiefs not converting on their final drive.

While Toney struggled in 2023, the talented, shifty wideout is expected to find a home elsewhere. However, his career catching passes from Patrick Mahomes is over as he searches for his third team in five years.
