49ers superstar running back Christian McCaffrey has been ruled out of the team's opening game against the Jets on Monday night.
This comes as a shock as he was expected to play, and even said himself that he was going to be playing. McCaffrey has been fighting a calf injury since the start of camp, and it looks like it has not healed yet.

With McCaffrey out, the 49ers will turn to Jordan Mason, who was the third-string but is filling in for Elijah Mitchell, who is out for the season.
Last season, McCaffrey was the best back in football, rushing for 1,459 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also had 564 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.
The 49ers will hope that they can get their star running back back as soon as possible, but no timeline is currently known for his injury. If they can get him back and healthy for their matchup against the Vikings next week, the team will be going in the right direction. Not rushing him back is the right move, but it still came as a shock for the NFL world. The 49ers, who are one of the favorites for the Super Bowl, got back their key pieces in Brandon Aiyuk and Trent Williams just before the start of the year. When they get McCaffrey back, their offense will be back to full strength and will look to lead them far into the postseason.
