San Fransisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffery signed a new extension granting him $38 million for two years with the 49ers on Tuesday, June 4.
McCaffery’s two-year deal will make him the highest-paid running back in the NFL, earning $19 million a season with the reigning NFL runner-ups, the San Fransisco 49ers. In the 2023-2024 NFL season, McCaffery recorded 272 rushing attempts for 1,459 yards and 14 touchdowns, leading the league in rushing yards, almost a whole 300 yards more than Derrick Henery, who finished second in the running (1,167). In his eighth season in the league, and second with the 49ers, McCaffery helped San Fransisco return to the Super Bowl for the first time since 2020, where they again fell to the Kansas City Chiefs.

However, McCaffery’s 2023-2024 season was one for the books despite coming short of a title. He set a franchise record for the most consecutive games with a touchdown with 17, which included three playoff games from the 2023-2023 NFL season. This headline was the highlight of each Sunday, where all eyes were on the All-Pro running back to see if he would continue his scoring streak.
Not only did McCaffery dominate the ground game for the Niners, but he was also a weapon through the air, catching 67 passes for 564 receiving yards and an additional seven touchdowns, bringing his total to 21 touchdowns in the season. McCaffery proved why he deserves to be the highest-paid running back in the league, and he hopes to continue his magical run in the 2024-2025 season, where the 49ers hope to finish the job and capture their first Super Bowl title since 1995.
