Good news out of the Buffalo Bills camp as HC Sean McDermott is optimistic after what he is hearing from his medical staff regarding top receiver Curtis Samuel. Samuel who is battling a turf toe injury was a beacon of hope after a tough offseason that saw some key players move on from the organization.
#Bills HC Sean McDermott on the possibility of Curtis Samuel (toe) and MVS (neck) suiting up in Week 1:

“I feel like those two — from what I’ve heard so far — have a real good chance of being back. Just not committing to it yet… just because it’s the human body.” pic.twitter.com/fJ6xsGUaW8
McDermott who wouldn’t fully commit to Samuel being ready for the Bills opener against the Arizona Cardinals did seem to offer what many thought was already out of the cards. Bills mafia would love to see Samuel in pads week 1 as the team is currently dealing with multiple injuries to star players including a torn biceps in LB Matt Milano. Though “murky” as McDermott called it, the chance that Samuel and Marquez Valdes-Scantling who has been dealing with a neck issue could play week 1 is big news.
The other good news we at The Predictors can add to the situation is that when given the time to heal, WR’s who return from Turf Toe injuries come back to their pre-injury playing levels in their first game back on average. For those who carry starting roles on their teams they usually miss around 3 weeks which adds a week to Samuels current projection and would put him more on track for return around week 2. However, like most injuries there are severities and small differences amongst all injuries so hopefully Samuel is on the short end.
The Bills Athletic Trainers and medical staff will do everything they can to get him on the field in a safe way and we hope to see him suited up week 1.
