The day finally came for Patriots fans on Sunday when their No. 3 overall pick, Drake Maye, finally suited up and started his first game. Although the game ended in a 41-21 loss to the Texans, Maye gave fans and teammates something to be excited about.
May showed some big-time potential in both the passing and rushing game. Although he had some rough moments with a couple of turnovers (two INTs and one fumble), he was able to bounce back from those moments and put up some solid numbers when the game was over.

Maye finished the game, completing 20 of his 33 passing attempts for 243 yards and three touchdowns. He also led the Patriots in rushing with 38 yards on five carries. These numbers were more than expected, as the Patriots hadn't had a game this season with over 200 passing yards and only had two passing touchdowns throughout the first five weeks of the season. The Texans also had held all previous quarterbacks to under 200 yards passing, making these stats from Maye even more impressive.
Maye seemed to gain the trust and support of his teammates, with fellow wide receiver Demario Douglas saying after the game, "He's got that swag… I'll run through a wall for him."

The Patriots have a more favorable matchup next week against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. The 22-year-old rookie's second start will be at 9:30 AM, which will be interesting as it is a different environment than usual.
Although the Patriots won't be competing for the playoffs this season, it will be nice for fans and players to see the young play-caller's development throughout the season. With the Patriots having 11 games left in the young season, it will be time for Maye to get used to the NFL environment and hopefully flourish in his new role.
