Falcons Ink Former Broncos Safety Justin Simmons to One-Year, $8 Million Deal

According to Jordan Schultz, the Falcons land another huge defense piece in four-time All-Pro safety Justin Simmons. It is a one-year, $8 million dollar deal with $7.5 million fully guaranteed. The Broncos released Simmons in March to clear cap space.

Simmons, who met with the Saints and Falcons, chose the Falcons after a reported dinner Monday night with HC Raheem Morris and All-Pro players Jessie Bates III, Grady Jarrett, and AJ Terrell.

Simmons, an incredible safety, has led the league in interceptions since joining the league in 2016 with 30 INTs and is the only player in the NFL to record multiple interceptions in every season in that time frame (2016-2023). Although Simmons did post his lowest coverage grade since 2018 (63.4), the Broncos ranked 29th in yards allowed per game and 27th in points allowed per contest. Now in new threads, Simmons joins stellar safety Jessie Bates III, making the back end of the Falcon's defense a lethal one-two punch.

With the move for Judon yesterday and now the signing of Simmons today, the Falcons are really trying to make themselves a contender in the NFC. By beefing up their defense and signing Kirk Cousins at the beginning of the offseason, Atlanta is all in on this upcoming season. Already favorites to win the division, the Falcons now have the 6th best odds to win the NFC. Under first-year HC Raheem Morris, Atlanta is a team to watch in the NFC.
