J.J. McCarthy warming up for Preseason Week 1

J.J. McCarthy is expected to miss some time as he will undergo surgery for a meniscus issue that bothered the No. 10 overall pick in his first preseason game. The young quarterback complained about knee soreness over the weekend and underwent an MRI on Monday night, revealing his meniscus issue. The quarterback played well in his first preseason game, throwing for 188 yards, two touchdown passes, and two rushes for 18 yards. With McCarthy going down, it is almost a guarantee that Sam Darnold will start for the Vikings in their week one matchup versus the Giants.

The timetable for McCarthy is still unknown, as the determination of the surgery has not been made yet. Per HC Kevin O'Connell, McCarthy has a torn meniscus in his right knee. There are two options: either a trim, which would mean McCarthy would be out for a few weeks, or a repair, which would mean McCarthy would be out for many months. It will be interesting to see which path McCarthy and the Vikings take, as fans are eager to see the national champion play on the field.
