The Detroit Lions pulled off a miracle win in Houston on Monday night, taking the game 26-23 on a last second field goal.
The Lions won despite throwing five interceptions and being down 23-7 at halftime. They showed the mental toughness of a true Super Bowl contender and pulled it out after a big fourth quarter. Jake Bates played a huge role hitting both a 58-yarder to tie the game then a 52-yard kick to win it on back to back possessions.

Jared Goff did not have a good game at all, but showed his resilience and ability to quickly regroup mentally after interceptions. He completed 15 of his 30 passes for 240 yards and two touchdowns. He also had all five interceptions in the game.
Receiving wise, Sam LaPorta led the way hauling in three passes for 66 yards and a touchdown. Amon-Ra St. Brown also had a touchdown, as well as six catches and 60 yards.
Jahmyr Gibbs got the job done rushing, going for 71 yards on 19 carries. He had multiple chunk runs in the fourth quarter to help the comeback bid. Gibbs also caught two passes for 37 yards. David Montgomery was never really able to get anything going, as he rushed 12 times for 32 yards and a touchdown.
Defensively, the Lions deserve a lot of credit. They kept the team in it all night and held strong despite the turnovers. They created two turnovers of their own and held Joe Mixon to only 1.8 yards per carry.
The Texans should feel super disappointed that they were not able to take this game. They came out strong and had the Lions offense in a chokehold almost the whole game, but never truly capitalized.
CJ Stroud was a tale of two halves. He orchestrated several great drives in the first half, and produced almost nothing in the second half. He finished the night 19 of 33 passing for 232 yards and one touchdown. He also threw two interceptions, both after halftime.
John Metchie broke out for Houston receivers. A room struggling with injuries, someone needed to step up tonight and that player was Metchie. He hauled in five balls for 74 yards and a touchdown. Dalton Schultz was just behind him with 66 yards on three catches.
John Metchie missed his entire rookie year after he was diagnosed with leukemia in 2022.

Mixon, who has been one of the best backs while healthy, was completely shut down tonight. He rushed the ball 25 times for only 46 yards (1.8 YPC) and a touchdown. He also had two catches for 44 yards. The run game being non-existent for the Texans played a major role in their failure to close out the game.
Defensively, the Texans played near perfect until late. They tallied five interceptions, with Kamari Lassiter accounting for two of them. He got injured and was not able to return, however. Jimmie Ward, Henry To’oTo’to, and Calen Bullock had the other three interceptions.
The Lions tonight showed their resilience and improved to a great 8-1 record. They are also perfect on the road, winning all five games they’ve played. They currently sit as the best team in the NFC and hold a one game lead over the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC North. The Texans now fall to 6-4 on the season. They currently hold a comfortable lead in a very weak AFC South, but were expected to look much better than they have. Once they get Nico Collins to return, which will very likely be next week, they will likely improve drastically.
