The New England Patriots just announced that veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett will lead the team Week 1.

Brissett beat out rookies Joe Milton and Drake Maye, whom the Patriots drafted with the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Brissett has started with multiple teams throughout his NFL career In his career, he has thrown for 10,574 yards, 51 touchdowns and 23 interceptions. He also has a 61.3 completion percentage.

Even though Maye had a good preseason, the Patriots may just be trying to ease him into the NFL, and he may be starting later down the line.

At the University of North Carolina, Maye started in 26 games, threw for a total of 8,018 yards, 63 touchdowns and 16 interceptions.

New England was the last team to announce their starting QB, as the Denver Broncos announced Russell Wilson as their starter last night.

The Patriots, who are expected to struggle this offseason, will hope that Brissett can teach Maye well and speed up the young QB’s growth throughout the season. If Maye overtakes the starting QB role at some point this season, it will be good for the Patriots, especially if he can make good connections with fellow rookie Ja’Lynn Polk.
