The Carolina Panthers have decided to bench Bryce Young for Andy Dalton for their matchup against the Raiders.
Young is in his second year with the team, but has been struggling consistently since being the No. 1 overall draft pick. So far this season, Carolina has suffered two very embarrassing losses, and Young has not performed very well at all. So far, Young has completed only 55.4% of passes for 245 yards and three interceptions.
Last season, Young started 16 games and completed just under 60% of his passes. He had 2,877 yards, 11 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

Dalton is entering his 14th season in the NFL and his second with the Panthers. Last season, Dalton appeared in three games and started in one. He tallied 361 yards and two touchdowns in his appearances, while completing nearly 60% of his passes. He did not throw any interceptions.
The benching of Young did come to a surprise as many, as the Panthers were expected to struggle this season and growing pains are going to happen with young players. The Panthers also gave up a lot of their future to draft Young, so giving up on him in his 18th game seems very early. In the trade, they gave up DJ Moore, two first-round picks, and two second-round picks. One of these picks became Caleb Williams.

The Panthers also drafted Young over Texans superstar CJ Stroud. This makes Young’s performance look even worse, and the Panthers decide to take him bad, but his career is far from being over.
Carolina will hope that the benching of Young will turn their season around in a hurry. After getting blown out back-to-back weeks, the Panthers will travel to Vegas to take on the Raiders. If they can win this game, they will feed off the confidence and hope that Dalton experiences can help them compete all season.
