Just a few days after the Steelers extended long-time Steeler Cameron Hayward to a three-year deal, they locked up a cornerstone on the offensive side in TE Pat Freiermuth. The second-round draft pick in 2021 signed a four-year $48 million deal earlier today. Freiermuth, who will turn 26 in October, will now spend his foreseeable future with this Pittsburgh franchise.

Freiermuth has been a solid option at the TE position for the Steelers, racking up 1,537 receiving yards, 155 receptions, and 11 touchdowns in his three years with the team. However, he has struggled to get into the endzone recently, tallying only four touchdowns in total throughout the past two seasons. With this deal, the Steelers could expect big production out of him and second-year wide receiver George Pickens this season. Freiermuth will serve as his safety valve this season with new QB Russell Wilson at the helm for this 2024 campaign.
With the Steelers getting Freiermuth at a valued price, we will see how he is used in this brand-new offense. Although quarterback Russell Wilson is questionable for Sunday's game as he has been dealing with calf tightness, backup quarterback Justin Fields took first-team reps today for the Steelers.
Freiermuth and the rest of Steelers nation kick off their season this week against the Atlanta Falcons.
