Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes will have some outside distractions prior to his Super Bowl LVIII matchup with the San Francisco 49ers as his father, Patrick Mahomes Sr. was arrested on DWI suspicion Saturday night in Tyler, Texas. Mahomes Sr. is a former Major League Baseball pitcher and has had previous trouble with the law before his Saturday night arrest by the Tyler Police Department. Unfortunately for Mahomes Sr. this is not the first time he has been picked up for driving under the influence, as this is now his third DWI charge and has spent 40 days in jail, serving on the weekends, between February 2018 to February 2020.

This could not have come at a worse time for the Chiefs quarterback as he is a week away from potentially winning his third Super Bowl and back to back titles after defeating the Philadelphia Eagles last year in the championship game. Mahomes has looked locked in and confident this postseason, throwing for 718 yards and four touchdowns while maintaining a 100.7 quarterback rating. Mahomes will need to play at his absolute best to beat a Niners defense that has been top five all season and are coming off a momentous NFC Championship after shutting out the Detroit Lions in the second half. I do not think this will distract Mahomes from his ultimate goal of becoming a back to back Super Bowl Champion but it is another red flag from the Mahomes family as Mahomes Sr, his wife Brittany, and brother Jackson have all found their way on various headlines throughout Patrick’s NFL career.
