With this deal Surtain becomes the highest-paid DB in NFL history. Wow. pic.twitter.com/359hN1fHWL
Surtain was the ninth overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft and has quickly become one of the best defensive backs in the league. With his 6-foot-2 frame and physical style, he can match up well with bigger receivers. Surtain isn't slow either, running a 4.46 40-yard dash and being able to stay with those faster receivers as well. This versatile game gave him an All-Pro nod in 2022, and he has been voted into the Pro Bowl in the past two seasons.
The Broncos extended Surtain a little early, with two years left on his deal, including a fifth-year option worth just under $20 million in 2025. Instead of waiting a year and then extending Surtain, the Broncos now have a cornerstone piece locked up for the next six seasons.

With the DB market being reset by $3 million, expect an even larger contract for Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner next season.
The Broncos take on the Seahawks this Sunday, and by getting this deal done, they won't have to worry about their star DB any longer.
