WR Devante Adams Traded to the Jets

After what seems like forever, Devante Adams is no longer a Raider and will be joining an old friend in New York.

The Raiders and Jets are finalizing a trade to send Devante Adams to the Jets for a conditional third-round pick that could be improved to a second-round pick based on performance. The Jets tried to trade for Adams last season, but the Raiders weren't interested. Two weeks after Adams requested a trade, they accepted.

In this trade, the Jets will assume the rest of Adams's contract, which has two years left on it. He has a base salary of $35.6 million remaining in each of the next two years, although none of it is guaranteed, which makes him a cap casualty.

The Jets fell to 2-4 last night, losing in brutal fashion 23-20 against their fierce division rival, the Buffalo Bills. With two missed field goals and only going one for four in the red zone, it is clear that last night's game just got away from the Jets. The Jets are bolstering an already stacked offensive lineup with this trade for Adams.

This Jets offense now includes Aaron Rodgers, Breece Hall, Garrett Wilson, Allen Lazard, and Mike Williams, who are all stellar at their positions. Adams's addition obviously improves the wide receiver room, but this move seems like more of a luxury than a need for the Jets.

Adams, a 31-year-old six-time Pro Bowler, has missed the last three weeks with a hamstring injury. But before that, he had 18 catches for 209 yards and a touchdown in the three games he played this season. Even with the injury holding Adams out for the past three weeks, there is a good chance that he will suit up this Sunday Night against the Steelers.

The Adams/Rodgers connection on the Packers was one of the best for many years in the NFL, with connections resulting in 622 receptions, 7,590 yards, and 69 touchdowns from 2014-2021. Adams was traded to the Raiders in the Spring of 2022, a season to reunite with former college teammate Derek Carr before Rodgers was traded to the Jets.

The Raiders cut ties with Carr after just one season with Adams, and ever since then, it seems like Adams wanted out. Carr's Saints were also a top pick for Adams. Adams also looked at teams like the Bills, Chiefs, Cowboys, Commanders, and Steelers. But ultimately, the Jets got the job done.

With Super Bowl hopes for this Jets roster, a 2-4 start was something other than what fans were expecting, as the team was 3-3 through six weeks last season with former QB Zach Wilson. Can Adams help turn this season around, or will the Jets finish under .500 for the ninth season in a row? Only time will tell.
