Just over a month since wide receiver Marquise "Hollywood" Brown was injured in a preseason game versus the Jackson Jaguars, he has now been placed on the IR. Brown suffered a sternoclavicular dislocation after falling awkwardly in the preseason game. With the original timetable not being so bad as it was assumed Brown would only potentially miss the opener versus the Ravens, now he is in jeopardy of missing the whole season. Brown is set to have surgery on his sternoclavicular joint and is set to miss multiple months, according to HC Andy Reid.

"It's not going to be weeks," Reid said Friday regarding a timeline for Brown's return. "More like months."
It seemed like Brown was on track to return for this Sunday's game, as rehab was going well. There was "no pain," and he seemed ready to start doing return-to-play opportunities. But after a new MRI, it seemed that the bone had moved, and after consulting with multiple physicians, it was deemed too risky to have Brown play without getting surgery. This was an unfortunate blow to a player who was fighting to return.
Disappointed , frustrated, and Sad was the first wave of emotions once I realized I would need surgery but that only lasted a day or so because Of my Faith in God. 🙏🏿 knowing that this to shall pass , no matter the great opportunity I had in front of me. It’s not over and that’s…

Brown, 27, signed a one-year, $7 million dollar contract with the Chiefs in March and was set to be a significant contributor in this receiving core behind TE Travis Kelce and WR Rashee Rice. Brown has played five years in the league, starting his first three with the Ravens and playing his last two with the Cardinals. He has racked up 3,644 receiving yards and 28 touchdown receptions throughout those five years, which have been a very serviceable option for the teams he has played on.
With Brown now out for the foreseeable future, the Chiefs receiving core is relatively thin. The Chiefs will have to rely heavily on Rice, Kelce, and rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy, who had two touchdowns in the opener versus the Ravens. It will be interesting to see if the Chiefs sign a free-agent wide receiver to fill the void of Brown. With options like Julio Jones, Hunter Renfrow, and Corey Davis, there are plenty of options for the Chiefs to pick. Only time will tell. The Chiefs face the Bengals this Sunday, and we will see how the receiving core performs.
