The Chicago Bears will be without Pro Bowl cornerback Jaylon Johnson for an indefinite period after the standout defensive back sustained a groin injury during Sunday’s loss to the Detroit Lions, according to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
The team is still evaluating the severity of the injury, including whether surgery will be necessary and how long Johnson will be sidelined.
Johnson left the game in the second quarter after hurting his groin while breaking up a pass. The injury is a setback for Johnson, who had already missed all of training camp, the preseason, and Chicago’s season opener with the same issue. He had returned to the lineup Sunday but quickly reaggravated the injury, forcing the team to rule him out indefinitely.
The Bears now face a challenging stretch in the secondary without one of their top defensive playmakers, and the team will monitor Johnson closely as they determine next steps for treatment and recovery.
