Bears vs. Browns Dec. 14

Caleb Williams scrambled toward the right sideline and fired a daring throw into the back of the end zone, where DJ Moore elevated above traffic and hauled in a touchdown. It was a fitting snapshot of a dominant afternoon for Chicago.

Williams threw two touchdown passes and the Bears overwhelmed the Browns 31-3 on Sunday in one of the coldest games in Soldier Field history. Chicago struck early, pulled away after halftime, and never allowed Cleveland to find any rhythm despite a strong individual effort from Myles Garrett.

The Bears improved to 10-4, reaching double-digit wins for the first time since the 2018 season. Playing in 8-degree temperatures at kickoff, Chicago scored twice in the first quarter and added two more touchdowns in the third to put the game out of reach. The performance came at a crucial time after a loss at Green Bay the previous week dropped the Bears from first to seventh in the NFC standings.

Garrett continued his historic season with 1.5 sacks, giving him 21.5 on the year and moving him within one of the NFL single-season record. He recorded a third-down sack in the second quarter near the goal line and combined with Shelby Harris for another early in the fourth. Garrett has at least one sack in eight straight games and 17.5 over that span.

Williams bounced back from several uneven outings, completing 17 of 28 passes for 242 yards. He had completed under 60 percent of his throws in each of the previous six games but looked more comfortable against Cleveland’s defense.

D’Andre Swift rushed for 98 yards and two touchdowns, while Moore finished with 69 receiving yards and two scores with Rome Odunze sidelined for a second straight game. Moore’s 22-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter was one of the highlights of the day. Rookie Luther Burden added six catches for 84 yards, including a 40-yard reception.

Chicago’s defense smothered Cleveland, holding the Browns to 192 total yards and turning three interceptions of Shedeur Sanders into 17 points. The Bears’ three takeaways pushed their league-leading total to 30.

D’Marco Jackson intercepted a pass deep in Cleveland territory in the third quarter, setting up a touchdown. Later in the quarter, Jaylon Johnson picked off a pass at the goal line with his back to the quarterback, again leading to a score. C.J. Gardner-Johnson added another interception in the fourth that set up a field goal. The Bears rebounded from last week’s loss and extended their home winning streak to five games since the season opener.

Cleveland fell to 3-11, dropping its third straight game and sixth in the last seven. Sanders finished 18 of 35 for 177 yards with three interceptions and was sacked five times in his fourth career start. The Browns confirmed he will remain the starter for the rest of the season after his breakout performance the previous week.
