The San Francisco 49ers’ franchise quarterback is one step closer to returning to action.
Brock Purdy was back at practice in a limited capacity Tuesday, according to multiple reports. Head coach Kyle Shanahan told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that Purdy “has a chance” to play Sunday.

Purdy is recovering from toe and left shoulder injuries sustained in the season-opening 17-13 win over the Seahawks — a game he sealed with a late touchdown pass to tight end Jake Tonges.
With Purdy sidelined in Week 2, Mac Jones made his first start as a 49er and delivered, completing 26 of 39 passes for 279 yards and three touchdowns in a 26-21 road win over the Saints. Jones has proven he can hold down the offense if Purdy isn’t ready for Sunday’s home opener against the 2-0 Arizona Cardinals.
Jones is the first backup quarterback, with Adrian Martinez (practice squad) and Kurtis Rourke (non-football injury list).
