The Dallas Cowboys have just confirmed that their star pass catcher CeeDee Lamb could miss 3-4 weeks due to a high ankle sprain he sustained in their loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday. Lamb suffered the injury with 8:34 left in the first quarter after linebacker Noah Sewell landed on the back of his legs. Lamb then missed the next two offensive series, 14 snaps in total, then returned for the first play of the second quarter but it was apparent he was in discomfort. Lamb reportedly wanted to come back into the game once he felt he had the adequate strength and mobility return to his ankle but the Cowboys medical staff made the decision to keep him out of the game.

The new top wide receiver in Dallas is now George Pickens who was traded to Dallas this past offseason from the Pittsburgh Steelers for Pickens and a 2027 sixth-round pick while the Cowboys gave up a 2026 third-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick. In his first three games with the Cowboys, Pickens has 13 receptions for 166 yards and two touchdowns. Pickens will have a massive role to fill with Lamb out for at least a couple of weeks as Lamb is coming off back-to-back weeks with 100 plus yards. Pickens is an explosive route runner with nimble hands but it will be interesting to see how his production will be affected now that he will most likely be seeing teams’ best defensive backs and potential double teams when running routes.

In Pickens' three seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team that drafted him with the 52nd overall pick in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, the Georgia alum hauled in 174 catches for 2,841 yards and 12 touchdowns. Pickens has the ability to replicate the production that Lamb has provided in his time in Dallas, 512 receptions for 6,561 yards and 38 touchdowns in five seasons, but it might take more time than expected for Pickens and quarterback Dak Prescott to build the rapport that he has with Lamb.
