Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa

The Miami Dolphins travel to Buffalo to take on the Bills in a Thursday Night Football matchup. The Dolphins are looking for their first win over the Bills in the past six matchups, their first win of the season, and their first divisional win of 2025.

Dolphins' TNF Preview:

Tagovailoa is finding his rhythm:

Despite Week 2's loss to the New England Patriots, Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa seems to be settling into the offense and has found ways to create chunk plays.

Tagovailoa hit wide receiver Tyreek Hill for a 49-yard gain and running back De'Von Achane for a 29-yard touchdown.

He threw for a season-high 315 yards in Week 2, tossed two touchdowns, and threw an interception; however, he was still sacked five times for a loss of 18 yards.

The biggest hole in Miami's offense is getting Tagovailoa better protection to find his receivers down the field. He has been sacked eight times in two weeks, and has thrown three interceptions.

Three-game divisional opponent stretch:

After the Dolphins fell to the Patriots in Week 2, their Thursday Night Football matchup against the Buffalo Bills became even more significant.

Buffalo continues a pivotal stretch of games against the Dolphins' divisional rivals, an early-season stretch that massively affects Miami's playoff chances. After Week 3 in Buffalo, the New York Jets will travel to Hard Rock Stadium to close out the first slate of divisional games for the Dolphins.

After Week 4, the Dolphins will not meet another AFC East opponent until Week 10 back in Miami, when the Bills make the venture to Hard Rock.

A win over the Bills tonight would take a bit of pressure off Miami's shoulders entering Week 4. Not only would they topple one of the top teams in the AFC, but they would also add a cushion for any potential future losses to divisional opponents in terms of postseason odds.

Yet, if the Dolphins drop tonight's game vs. Buffalo, they will fall to the bottom half of the AFC East and will have to fight to crawl back up the standings for a chance to earn a playoff birth, something they haven't done since 2023.

Kickoff: Thursday, September 18 vs. Buffalo Bills (8:15 p.m. ET on AMZN)
