Breaking news coming out of East Rutherford, New Jersey this morning as the New York Giants fired head coach Brian Daboll. This decision comes in the wake of the Giants blowing another double-digit lead to the Chicago Bears on Sunday, the second time they have blown a 10 point or more lead with four minutes remaining. The 24-20 loss to the Bears was the nail in the coffin to a 2-8 season in 2025 and an ugly 0-6 on the road.
In his tenure with the Bears which started in 2022, Brain Daboll went 9-7-1 and made the playoffs, which would be his only winning season as the head coach of the Giants. The following seasons would combine for a total record of 11-33 finishing at 20-40-1 all-time as the New York Giants head coach.
The Giants’ interim head coach will be their sixth head coach since 2016. The other five: Ben McAdoo, Steve Spagnuolo, Pat Shurmur, Joe Judge and Brian Daboll. https://t.co/525eamT5od

Daboll’s records as Giants head coach:
2022: 9-7-1 (made playoffs, won a playoff game, Daboll won Coach of the Year)
2023: 6-11
2024: 3-14
2025: 2-8 (fired after Week 10)
With Daboll gone, the Giants have elevated assistant head coach and offensive coordinator Mike Kafka as the interim head coach for the remainder of the season. Over the past two seasons, Kafka has been in the running for multiple head coaching positions, maybe if he can salvage any of this season he might finally land a head coaching position.
Now that the Giants have finally fired Daboll, it will be interesting to see how Jaxson Dart continues to develop. Daboll was the main driving force to drafting Dart in the first round of this year's NFL Draft, which brought a major jolt of life to a Giants offense that struggled with Daniel Jones and Tommy DeVito in recent seasons. Dart did suffer a concussion in their loss to the Bears, now the fourth time the rookie quarterback has been evaluated for a concussion including the preseason.
While the Giants have found what seems to be their quarterback for the future in Dart, the Giants front office now has more pressure on them than before to find the right head coach this offseason to help and not hinder the growth of the exciting new signal caller. I would not be surprised to see the Giants fire GM Joe Schoen who has been sharing the hot seat with Daboll coming into this season.
