Injury Round Up

49ers Mccaffery

The San Fransico 49ers improved to 4-1 on the season with an impressive win over the Los Angeles Rams. While the win is outstanding on its own, the resiliency the 49ers have shown thus far throughout the season is even more so.

Last night, the 49ers took the field with an extremely low TEAM BUS of 63.5, indicating widespread injury concerns across multiple position groups. The primary groups affected have been on the offensive side of the ball with QBs, WRs, and TEs taking the brunt of attrition.

Entering the game, the defensive line was one of the few bright spots on an otherwise dreary injury report, but after losing Kalia Davis to a broken hand and Yetur Gross-Matos to a hamstring injury, there will be more questions heading into Week 6. The team also saw Dee Winters (shoulder) and Upton Stout (ankle) get Banged-Up during the game.

Unfortunately, this is nothing new for the 49ers. Over the past several seasons, injury concerns have been ever-present for the 49ers, even as they have assembled one of the most talented rosters in the NFL. The questions will now turn to Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch as they continue to look to plug holes. Yet, even with all the questions facing the 49ers' health concerns, there is a sliver of positive news on the horizon.

The 49ers have a mini bye to heal up after playing the Thursday night game, but the October 12th matchup vs the ever-improving Buccaneers will be here quickly. The 49ers have demonstrated tremendous toughness over the first five weeks of the season, but will they be able to sustain their success as injury concerns continue to mount? Extra rest may help, but if roster attrition continues to mount, even one of the NFL’s best rosters might hit its breaking point … again.
